If there is an accident involving the vehicle who is responsible? What happens if both drivers blame each other? Im not a driver so genuinely dont know the answer to that.

If no one accepts blame, it would make its way to court, but between the posties, not for royal mail, they'll identify both parties that had the vehicle and be cleared.
You do hear, from time to time a wife took a ticket for a husband and the like, and at some point, it was discovered and they both got railed for it. So for both, it'll be better to be straight with the truth.

I also imagine in such a case, RM would separately take each into a room (With a union rep should they ask for them...) and a version of the prisoners dilemma would play out.

Whats the official procedure though? Should there not be an official changeover every time there is a different driver?

I don't believe this would stand. The owner (RM) wouldn't be liable if they couldn't be certain who was driving, and having two drivers makes that immediately cloudy. There is a system in place for multiple drivers (The PDA) so signing a van then having my partner drive it at 90mph into a wall but I take the blame because I scribbled in a box, would be absolute insanity, and completely unstoppable, we both have keys. If someone nicks your car and crashes it, do you get the blame by default?

Honestly, if I had money to burn, I'd let a lawyer find out for me, but the reality is, be f***ing honest and the problems are minimal. EVERYONE will f**k up.

How certain are you that there can be two drivers without a changeover? Its the first ive heard of it and ive never seen any pairings that both drive do it - which some would if they thought they were allowed to.
