Chances of reducing to a 3 day week...

Just done this myself. I was going to leave as I have my pension and a little more flexible job lined up. My union rep talked to the manager and they offered me three days (weds,thurs,fri.)
Minimum of 25 hours so it needed to be the long days.

Must try this myself, i am thinking of just jacking it in as i can't take the physical stress of the 5 days anymore.
Parcel capacity is one thing but the real problem is weight, oversize can be easier than a box of cat/dog food at 20kg+ and they are becoming regular as clockwork.
I don't have long to go anyway so 3 days for 18 months max would maybe be ok.

We had a few 3 day duties in our office. M,Tu,W then Th,F,S weeks about. Now there is only one person left. All the other have left the job. I tried to get our union rep to bring more in, with the idea of older blokes looking to work on, who perhaps couldn't do 5 days any more due to age etc. He wasn't interested. Doesn't want more part timers etc,etc. Which means basically, on your bike if you can't do the job any more. Some union that is.

Nothing wrong with your Union Rep. Trying to keep as many full time jobs as possible is imperative.

There will be a limit as to what % of PT you have got in your office. You need enough FT to do the IPS, prepping and whatever else they do that PT don't do

Well he's failed on that already. Loads on 32.5 hrs, 30 hrs, 35 hrs |(still not ft in my eyes). And there's never been so much left in the frames.

I think some of the comments on this subject are missing the point, the objective is to attend on fewer days so although part time still doing a full time shift so performing IPS etc.

Basically said no chance as they said they would end up trying to cover half a duty if 1 of us went sick or 1 of us was on holidays. The other FTimer spoke to the Union rep but he had no interest in getting involved. I’m even more pissed off now with this backward company

Currently if one of you goes off sick or has a holiday they have to cover a full duty for longer than 3 days, the job share you are requesting actually makes it easier for them.

That's the reason supermarkets etc prefer more people on low hours pt contracts to having less staff but on ft contracts, it obviously makes it easier to cover absences.

Why aren't royal mail introducing this countrywide i know loads who would do it,dont know why they would be worried about the union they are finished ,the only reason they would not want it is they would't be able to fill their pockets like the Tories they do not think about the workers and what they want,id say get rid of the uso and bring on the 3 day week for the ones who want it.

The 3 day a week people have to do sorting in our office as they have longer days.

I went from FT to PT 22 hrs over 3 days. Classed as FT on the day for the purpose of seasonal hours and IPS etc.
Asked my manager first and told you put it in writing with a date.2 weeks later it was all sorted. At the moment I'm job sharing.

Wow goes to show there are some decent managers, out of interest for any of the people considering it does your new contract differ in that it states it's a 3 day attendance as you know you can't always trust RM to keep to things they've agreed, a while ago we had a couple of 4 day 30 hr duties but they forced them to change to regular 5 days.
