LTB 352/12 - Parcelforce Worldwide – Allocation of Appeals
No. 352/2012
Ref: PTC/MA/dj/502
Date: 14 May 2012
TO ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
RE: Parcelforce Worldwide – Allocation of Appeals
We have recently had discussions with Parcelforce Worldwide to review the process of allocation of appeals. We can now inform all Branches that Parcelforce Worldwide have confirmed that they are supportive of a much greater dependency upon Royal Mail Appeals Managers to hear conduct and attendance dismissal appeals. Since the beginning of the calendar year, 80% of appeals have been heard by Royal Mail Appeals Managers. In future, where a Parcelforce Manager is required to hear a conduct or attendance dismissal, he or she will be more senior than the dismissing manager and will have no prior involvement with the case in question.
Parcelforce Worldwide will continue to hear grievances, bullying and harassment cases and ill health retirement appeals within the line in accordance with the agreed procedures.
We have jointly agreed that a further review be held at the end of this summer to review the level of complaints received about the independence of an Appeals Manager appointed within Parcelforce. We will keep Branches updated once the review has taken place.
Any enquiries should be addressed to Ray Ellis’s department, quoting reference PTC/MA/dj/502.

Yours sincerely
Ray Ellis,
Assistant Secretary
