How does working for parcelforce as a courier compare to being a postie?

Considering it for getting weekends off. I’ve been a postman for over 5 years. I have a legacy contract. Is parcelforce now a 2 tier work force as well? Would you recommend it?

There are pros and cons regarding being a Parcelforce driver .
The pros as you mentioned are you get the weekend off unless you want overtime of course .
Also you get to be on your own all day and that suits a lot of people .
the pays not bad but you have to work hard for it .

The downsides are it is full of stupid overpaid managers and way to many of them .
A lot of the Parcels are overweight in particular Screwfix and pets at home ,
hence you need to be really fit , (if you have had any back issues just forget it) .

The PDA SAT NAV is useless and needs an urgent update (most new drivers use there phones)
You need to be a confident driver it is a large van and you need to deliver in tight residential streets and narrow country lanes
on the subject of vans they are old and battered and need replacing , a lot have over 250,000 miles on the clock and some over 300.000
There is currently no investmest in Parcelforce and I cannot see any future in the job as it is on a downward spiral .

Parcel Force seems to be wearing an invisibility cloak. Simon Thompson couldn’t see PF either. It’s the massive elephant in the room.

How many parcels do you deliver on an average day? What area, sq miles wise, do you have to cover?

You have to sense eventually PF will be merged into GLS or RM, as it seems pointless having 3 different firms delivering parcels.

Couldn't agree more, three weeks back been a postie the ammount and indeed the sizes of parcels we are doing just shows exactly the direction Royal mail is going.. No idea where delivering mail will fit in with all this

I remain convinced that they have their sums all wrong. There are areas of the business which will no longer exist if we only do parcels i.e., d2ds bring in over £1b every year. What is in place to plug that financial hole?

Wow £1b, I had no idea it was this much for what many consider junk, and I, as a new starter don't get any delivery supplement for delivering them..
