Campaign for Posties

Hello all Posties!

I'm a graphic design student who is currently working on a group project with a goal to recognise the essential role of posties in maintaining people's lives during, before and after the pandemic. We want to inform and encourage people of different ways they can help to make postie's job a bit easier (anything from tipping, friendly interactions or taking care of health measures while interacting).

I'm currently looking to collect feedback from posties to understand their needs and concerns at the moment. I would appreciate any feedback on the topic / new ideas on how people can make posties days a bit better. Interesting our Dom advised us not to deliver mail to houses that had cleared their driveway of snow Too slippy

The people who order online obviously understand the risk of infection . I push a trolley up-to 9 miles a day touching gates letter boxes etc . I sanitise as much as possible but this is difficult in the freezing temperatures at the moment . Eg constantly taking your gloves off . What I’m not happy with is when people leave notification to deliver the parcel ( because there not in !! ) to there elderly neighbour who probably doesn’t understand the risk .

Try not to get excited when you see us coming up your path with a parcel and open the door before we get a chance to knock. We will place the parcel on your doorstep knock and retreat and wait for you to answer. We will wait at a safe distance and observe you getting your parcel . It keeps us both safe

Ensure dogs are not loose on the property and fit a mail cage behind the letterbox. Too many posties suffer dogbites!

A well meant 'Thank you' when delivering a parcel/mail is always appreciated!

I prefer it the other way round, if the driveway is clear it freezes over again. I would rather have an inch of snow.

Don’t forget to put the full postcode on all mail especially at Christmas when we use a lot of inexperienced staff to sort mail

If you are waiting for a parcel, that's what it is likely to be when your door bell rings.
If I had a £ for every time that I chap twice then write out a card and the door opens within 5 secs of the card going through, I'd be rich.

Also, the classic 'Did you ring my bell'?
No, I just stand there and expect you to see me.

Stop asking stupid questions when they open the door to collect a parcel I’m delivering to them.For example, Is it for me? No it’s for someone at the other end of town but I’m too lazy to walk that far.
What is it? How the hell do I know what it is.
Also low level boxes should be banned. It would be nice if like on my round a lady has installed a fixed,lockable parcel box. Absolutely great but you have to be the first to it or it will be locked.

If you MUST buy a metal post box to go on your wall outside your house, please buy one with the slot for the mail at the very top of the box and not at the side as your mail will fit so much better in said box. I also second what was said about letterboxes at the very bottom of the door. If you stop buying them the door manufacturers will get the message!

If you recieve a lot of parcels and are very rarely in, it's a worthy investment to buy a lockable parcel box that can be placed and secured at your property. Saves a lot of hassle.
Don't tell us your expecting a parcel and ask whether we have it. If we do we will knock on your door


In terms of the pandemic, don't come and greet us at the door, we can post whatever we need and if its a parcel we will knock, give us time to retreat.

Please pass feedback that because of the useless technology we have to suffer with, our rain-averse PDA's often go bonkers when they get a bit wet....and I'm not merely wasting my time at your door waiting for you to open it even if you haven't heard a knock... I'm just waiting for my PDA to settle down and eventually let me select & submit the scanning option I wanted to do 40 seconds ago.
