My Drive - Does anyone have a car through this scheme?
I’m coming up to being with RM for a year, so will be eligible to get a car through My Drive. I’ve been looking for a new car anyway and saw that with this your insurance is already included in the price. However, because I’ve not yet been here a year I can’t get onto the site to see what the prices are...
Does anyone currently have a car with them, and could you share your experience with it?
Thanks!

Just type 'Zenith car' into the search facility at the top right and you'll see various threads pop up detailing experiences....

Very nearly did it, but found ford doing a cheaper better deal (£192 a month for 3 years then 6k to buy it) where by actually own the car. (Had to Scrap my old focus)
Be very ccareful to calculate how many miles you do and how
Much they charge you for going over their mileage limit, can cost a lot!

5k mileage per year is the limit but if you just use it for work and general usage you can stay under that limit and also the price is very good per week

No experience of using them but initially I thought it sounded great. All inclusive price (insurance / breakdown / repairs / punctures / road tax etc) and it comes off out of your wages before tax. Just pay for petrol.
Looking into it in depth and comparing buying new (or 2nd hand elsewhere) it's not value for money for me. I'm a tight ass barstool. My partner does the spending on my behalf.
With RM it removes the headache of finding car / insurance / breakdown etc. Plus there is no credit check to worry about for ppl with a bad credit history. You dont own the car as your are just leasing it and can start a new lease (& new car) once the old one expires. If you leave or are sacked you still need to pay it off but not sure if you're allowed to keep the car.
I didnt go with it as its much cheaper to get a 2nd hand car & do all the other bits.
There is nothing wrong with going with RM but i see it as whats wrong with peoples attitude to finances these days. People want the new / good stuff now but wont save up for it. Like i said nothing wrong with it if its best for your current financial situation. I'm a bit older and a tight ass so I can afford to dump a lump sum on a 2nd hand car.
It all depends on your finances if its suitable for you.

Sorry but 5k isn’t the limit I’ve got a golf and it includes 10k mileage, and I’ve done the costing very thoroughly and it works out good value especially if you’ve had two punctures like I didSmith1212 wrote:5k mileage per year is the limit but if you just use it for work and general usage you can stay under that limit and also the price is very good per week

I got a quote from My Drive then approached the dealer of the car that I wanted.
They gave me £2000 scrappage for my old car which was worth £500.
Arranged finance and servicing for 42 months and option to buy at the end or pick a new car and carry on payments.
Worked out £150 cheaper per month than My Drive and that's including insurance.
Don't forget new cars don't need an MOT for 3 Years and are usually covered by warranty for so many years, mine is covered for 5 Years
I chose the dealer obviously.

Yes,
I've been a full time employee of Royal Mail for 21 years, I took out a lease on a small car 4 yrs ago with no problems at all until December, when i was asked to pick a replacement car. I was knocked back by Royal mail, not the leasing company, without an explanation. this has happened several times since and the result is , that i have been left high and dry without transport as from next month. I am unable to contact anyone at Royal Mail, as there appears to be no working phone number and nobody to reply to emails. So much for "Human Resources".... So, i would NOT recommend you join this scheme,, its a rip off.

Biggest put off for me was the car insurance included as I would lose my current 14 no claims bonus because if you don't use it within 2 years they become void/expire. And most cars are on 3 year leases.

My annual available spend only £115.00. I’m full time and earn £620 weekly with my allowances. My mate who dies the same hours managed to get a car. I don’t understand why I’m limited to )115 annually. Can’t get anything with that.
I’ve not used my bundle for anything in 6 years.

Probably because they are getting rid of it. You would get a better deal through a dealership/car finance company anyway.smeeagain wrote: ↑02 Mar 2025, 14:04My annual available spend only £115.00.
