Buying own Shoes

I bought some of my own comfortable shoes to wear for my round, as I’m like many of us the Royal Mail shoes/trainers provided are not suitable for our feet.

I know we can get reimbursed for shoes up to the value of £30-35 approx.

I asked my DOM whether I can get payment/reimbursed for the shoes I bought, and he said to me I would have to provide a doctors note to say why I can’t wear RM shoes. e.i causes blisters

My question is - is that reasonable for him to ask this or do you think he doesn’t want to pay it?

As per posts above it is policy. I saw Doctor and got a note (some may charge to provide a letter but mine didn't) which DOM put on file and I got reimbursed fine (just provided a receipt).

Doctor or podiatrist note required an you can claim up to £34.

I saw my Doctor and he only gave me a 4 week sick note, not a proper letter. May have to go back and ask for one now

Where does the footwear payment appear ? Still not seen payment for last years at all? Does it go in with wages or ?

They use to send a separate wage slip but now its paid straight into your bank account.

Do you provide receipts no reason at all for them to refuse to pay you keep badgering at them till you get paid. after all your entitled to it.

RM pay the first £35 twice per year on own footwear provided they meet the standard required but that's debatable on what you put a receipt in for,
I'd already got a doctors note in but my podiatrist said I needed more expensive shoes to help me along pending prior to a foot op,
their guide is just for a 1 off payment , they will pay the £35 plus 50% of the excess cost, the ones I bought were really expensive but worked a treat, the dogs bollox and will still probably buy them even now, but then RM refused to pay anything so I took them off my feet and went on the sick,
1st day off sick, called me to to say "yes we'll pay it now"
yeah like when notes already in
it cost RM an extra month sick leave for £80!
