summer 2019, ghost overtime and overtime.

Post by postiewhite »

Our manager has put a ban on any overtime for summer (and maybe beyond). Im a part timer and I was always asked to come in an hour early, or full time starts and I could get around 8 to 10 hrs OT per week, more in the winter. We recently had a meeting and practically no hours are given out on a morning now. I understand managers are getting pressured by their managers but I wanted to know if this is now affecting your office??. Occasionally I can cover a row from another duty on overtime and we have regular lads that want ALL the overtime and run round like headless chickens (ruining the job), getting back at 12 oclock and then ghost overtiming til 8pm but still finishing for around 2.30pm. We also had the fact that any ghost overtime will be stopping, but to me it's a load of rubbish. Managers rely on these lads to run around and all they seem to care about is a clear office come close.

Most of the indoor overtime gone,
No overtime to be taken out with the first delivery. You have to return to the office for it and any time you are back early is deducted from your overtime.
The worst is yet to come.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

How can they deduct overtime from earlier in the week, if that's what you mean, if you're back early say on a Saturday? Do they deduct the basic pay of people who don't claim overtime but finish early,? Thought not.
So, you can't have overtime to finish your own walk but someone with an easy walk can get paid your overtime and still finish early? Management are clueless, really.

No.
If you had agreed to do an extra half walk (4 hours) on Wednesday but returned to the office 2 hours early, then you would only get 2 hours overtime.
Concur with the last sentiment though.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Are you saying this is what's going to happen or what is happening now because I've taken my OT out with me today, did it, came back early and it wasn't deducted otherwise I'd have told the DoM to shove it before I agreed to do it.

I think every office is different. They tried to cut in the indoor hours in our office but it's not really worked due to fact so many full timers have left in recent years and not been replaced. Quite often I'm the only full timer sorting in the morning the others are part timers. As for the later ot the union agreement is that it's shared equally.

A ‘work to rule’ is required nationwide. Just start on time, use the correct equipment, take your breaks and finish on time using cut off process as needed.

About 10 or so are being paid overtime everyday to sort mail in the mornings before official start time, we call it "being paid overtime to finish early". Happens everyday regardless of what's on. You couldn't make it up.

If ghost overtime stops there will be a lot of mail sitting in our office. We get 3.30 hours for half a walk which is thrown off but not prepped. As we are on wallington weeks the duty time is about 8 hours.
