A message from Dave Ward
Dear Colleagues,
Negotiations on Royal Mail Letters Pay and the Future of the Company
"FULL AND FINAL OFFER" REJECTED
At a meeting yesterday afternoon, the Postal Executive unanimously
rejected what Royal Mail described as their "full and final offer" on
pay and how we deal with the future.
The offer comprised of 2.5% - conditional on unacceptable strings
including wholesale cuts, major change and flexibility. A full copy of
Royal Mail's rejected proposal has already been sent to local branches
and is now posted on our web-site at www.cwu.org.
The rejected offer now covers Engineering and MDEC grades - but still
excludes Admin grades. This is unacceptable. The Union will also
continue to reject any lump sum that replaces a proper pay increase for
CWU members.
We are determined to ensure Royal Mail return to the approach agreed
last year for dealing with major change, competition and automation. In
the 2006 "Shaping our Future Agreement", Royal Mail committed to
negotiate change whilst focusing on higher basic pay and permanently
raising the value and status of our member's jobs by April 2007.
With the scale of change that Royal Mail are proposing in their business
plan, this offer falls well short of the Union's aspirations.
The Union has told Royal Mail we want to reach an agreement - but Royal
Mail have told us they will drive through their business plan
regardless. This is a declaration of wholesale managerial executive
action to impose change at local level. We have no alternative other
than to ballot our members for strike action.
This dispute is about the future of the industry as well as pay. We all
have a responsibility to challenge Royal Mail's business plan and their
overall approach if we want a successful future.
Prior to the yesterday's Executive Council meeting, we held a
consultative meeting with representative from all regions, divisions and
CWU branches. It was the unanimous view of our representatives that
Royal Mail's final offer was completely unacceptable.
It is now incumbent on every single branch and representative of the
Union to hold meetings with our members in order to deliver an
overwhelming 'Yes' vote.
Royal Mail have contacted the Union seeking a further meeting, this has
been arranged for Monday the 14th May. Further developments will be
reported in due course.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Delaying tactics hoping we'll get bored and vote yes or more likely IMHO is that they are making the first moves in the PR campaign and will say they were open to discussions when in fact they're not.POSTMAN wrote:No suprise there then, why they having another meeting though, could it perhaps all change?
