Release time

Post by tommymac »

I am a ULR (Union Learning Rep) in my office. For those who have not heard of this position it entails leasing with local learning providers to set up courses for staff. See the post entitled ULR for more info. I was due to attend a union backed ULR2 course on March 12th. The local area management were informed of the course in November. The area ULR rep was told to write to them six weeks prior to the course to request release time. This was done and the time was granted by letter. On Friday last week the area rep received a letter saying I now could not go on the course and release had never been approved. This course would have been of great benefit RM staff in our office but management don't seem to want Posties to better themselves. What does this say about RM's Investors in People Award?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

They say resourcing is the problem but since Christmas when we had a dispute they flooded the office with managers and casuals and still are. It's just another intimidation move to try and wind up the guys in the office. Just how sad are these people?
