So far we've lost contracts with HBOS, Lloyds TSB, Barclaycard, Sky, Sainsbury's, npower, Thames Water,T-Mobile,Work and Pensions Department, Royal Bank of Scotland, Capital One, Vodafone, O2, Orange,Powergen,Tesco, John Lewis and Debenhams to name just a few.
Now we've just lost BT and British Gas,£150 Million over around 3 yrs.
The brown stuff no doubt is clearly hitting the fan,but how can a business once known as the greatest of it's kind in the world get to this?
Bearing in mind we deliver the darn stuff and we have the infrastructure that no one else in the country has, how the hell can we be undercut ffs.
No doubt things are going to change for us in a big big way,but there's only so much we can do,we cant take anymore mail out than what we already do unless the delivery time gets longer, which i'm sure we'll fight tooth and nail against.
So whatever happens next,we're seriously in for a bumpy ride.

I always thougt this was on the cards since Downstream Access started. In effect we must be the only company that has to undercut itself. We charge TNT etc a certain amount (Ii hear about 13p per item) for the last mile, but if the same company using TNT come to us we have to charge them I guess somewhere between 25p and ful price. If you were a large company who would you use?.
I must point out though that even with TNT, Deutches Post, and others winning contracts the only difference I have seen as a walking postman is that the amount I'm delivering seems to be increasing.
Royal mail - no longer a service, now a business. Profit is king

lets not kid ourselves the rm has been running itself into the ground for years with number off revisions, great ideas, new ways off working ,ways forward etc the only thing really to change has been start times the loss of second delivery and the mounting volumes of mail a decreasing number of people are expected to deliver
the job itself or the service we offer has not moved with the times by 2010 all sorting offices and hubs will be owned by tnt or one of the others the same with the hubs and trunking routes simple reason their staff can do it better and cheaper than we can mainly because they are not stuck with business ideas that are hundreds of years old like we are.if we are lucky rm will remain as a del unit only if not god knows
as a extra point anyone notice the new uniform in the courier it looked very similar in colour and design to my next door neighbours uniform his company was bought out a couple of years ago by tnt coincidence i presume, his company is now for sale again as tnt look to heavily invest in another area i wonder where that may be
a question for you folk out there have any of you had a bonus from your office savings, since i read in the courier about a bloke booking a holiday with his i have asked my line manager about ours frequently and have had no reply the last time it was mentioned we were doing really well but it seems to have disappeared

Bonus!!! the last office savings we had we're during the sdd s**t,we've done nothing since, but i thought it was in 'a pool'
where ALL the savings went in and we all shared it?
As we all know mail volumes aint dropped, and if Van Der Valk and his clog wearing kronies want to nick a bit more cream then VOLUME WISE it aint gonna affect us on deliveries.
Mail Centers, does this mean now that them guys are now standing around scratching their bollocks ,i think not,the s**t still has to be processed.
Our vehicle fleet and drivers, does this now mean that they are now having extended breaks cause there's f**k all to do,i think not we've still got to get the stuff moved around.
Profit wise i'm presuming that will go down so savings have to be made some where,as £4-500 Mill just aint enough is it?
D2D's are one way to push that back up,that deal WILL come in you can be sure of that, that could be a blessing in disguise,it's not fun doing them but it could just save our necks.
TNT seem to think that soon there will be Orange shirts pounding the streets delivering the stuff, maybe i'm being nieve but i really can't see them around my way,or most areas down here.
There's only so many bloody Phone or gas ect bills that you can deliver each year, and there's no way that anyone has the infrastructure to do a quarter or even less of what we do.
They will have to collect, sort and deliver in 2 days!!!!
We are and were going to get hit regardless of competion,it's the RM way,we're just going to get hit harder.
Interesting point by Rocky bout Mail Centers ect being sold off, when i was on lates there was talk about the collection part of the business being sold,i mean would you buy it!!!
There's toooo much s**t in the business that can't work on it's own,is it really worth it?
Management want to cut us to the bone, and this is a fantastic opportunity for them, there's around 195,000 of us,if we stick together we can make it easier for ourselves,National strikes could be the order of the day.
Blair and his f***ing numnuts need to be told.

from the blurb i can remember there where two lots off save from pay, in your own office from your budget ,which produced your office bonus 40 per cent to us 60 per cent to rm and then nationally all savings were supposed to go into basic pay with the same split i seem to think but dont quote me that we should have had another mini pay rise by now from these savings, having asked about this before my line manager today told me that he had e mailed someone about this but it seems his account is now corrupted interesting choice of words
talking about mail centres and sorting tnt are doing this work already thats why its called the last mile for our bit of the job and lets face it the larger utilty companies send their post out in coded bundles so do a few others if they can do it why not most of the others

Had a quick word with me rep today,it seems that 1% bit we got after RM shoved our pay deal in our paypackets a while ago has something to do with savings, which don't make sense as i thought it was part of the pay deal and nothing else.
Regarding the office savings 40-60 bit,it seems that if you make more than 5% in savings then you'll be entitled to it.
You guys seem to be going through the wars with that s**t now.
We lost a night a while back which he reminded me of,and apparently that's it for the mo,he's heard naff all about them coming back in for more.
Seems to me they're leaving us (London)alone for a while while they hit you guys.
It's a good way to do it as it divides us.
As for the Mail Centers maybe in time things could change,we still do a lot of work there.
I did 'flyer' my local one,Nine Elms, but none of them herberts have come on,would be interesting to see what goes on down there.
Something i thought of today, the amount of Mail Sort we deliver from these big companys,it would be so easy to save a few quid to use TNT and the like,as a rule not much changes for them, just a different coloured Lorry picking the s**t up.
So if TNT and others are doing most of the sorting, and we're limited to what we can do then maybe the Mail Centers could perhaps close and be merged together.
But then again, with these new super duper sorting machines coming in where the idea is to cut down on delivery jobs, the s**t's still got to be done by us.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh ffs i don't know
Either way this comes to mind lol.................
