What’s the most days of mail have u seen on any full walk ?

Post by Dan jack »

Like the title says lol

Any walk. A full walk. Not a line or few roads.

I have seen 4 days of mail lol on a full walk.

The worse is yet to come. No staff. 2-4 colleagues leaving every few months lol.

They keep promising us a full office staff soon hahaha 🤪

I came back from my days off to find three days' worth of mail on both frames as well as around 40ish untracked parcels... and I was on my own. Was asked to prioritise parcels basically every day for 8 days in succession (and I was on my own for this period) leading to about two weeks' worth on some parts of each frame.

Six days mail and two weeks worth of d2d’s. With the Mondays mail and another 3 d2d’s, the filets in my double slotted frame started breaking. There is one section of my frame which has 5 blocks of 9 flats which had 360 leaflets in 5 single slots! Managers advice, do what you can.

3 week over 2 absorbtion jobs during covid plus 3 of the large red sleeved Yorks worth of tiny non tracked packets over the 2 jobs. I don’t know how they let it get to that but they did, when the mail finally got delivered some of the houses had to have the mail delivered as oversize, I wish I was joking.

8 weeks into the job I got chucked onto a walk that the duty holder had retired from 2 weeks prior. It had been a pairing- part rural, part village- then one side got abolished, only as it's RM they only took half the abolished duty away leaving it unfinishable. Frame stuffed full, 9 mech trays and (IIRC) 19 crates of unsorted mail piled around the frame. I had no idea how to do it, no walk log and the only other postie who knew the walk had gone off sick.

It was November, so the mail and packets coming in were heavy every day

Took me nearly 2 weeks to get the frame clear, going over every day as the manager told me I had to take everything from the frame and get rid of everything I took out or he'd sack me for "wilful delay." Repeatedly told me everyone else who'd done it was clearing.

Once it was cleared and I got it through Christmas they let someone with 35 years seniority sign on to it and I had to train them to do it. Same manager told the senior postie, in front of me, "this walk is unmanageable so you only need to take out half a day- nobody's ever finished it in time."

7 straight days on the duty next to me in the middle of last December. I would have offered to take some if the OT rate wasn't garbage and my finish time wasn't after sunset.

Pre-pandemic, the lapsing finally went too far and the duty holders of the newly-lapsed pairing were reinstated after two weeks because no-one was taking it. They told me they had to return to the van after each close to refill their bags.
The machine stops.

Seven days worth during the pandemic. Frame was rammed you couldn't get any more letters in it and the packets on top were piled dangerously high. Had four yorkies of parcels lined up next to my frame the the same time. Was forced to take the holiday as it was booked even though there was apparently no one to cover it. :cuppa

HCT duty working alone. 1 week annual leave, returned after 7 days no mail gone out at all. 3 Bags of non-tracked packets left to one side.

Dom was adamant the duty was "covered" (by someone who had never done it before)

In response to my previous post, yes I made a killing on tips and gifts over that Christmas - my first in RM and I've never had it as good since. The manager in question left soon after: the COM inferred he'd been sacked but they just moved him to another DO!
