Prioritising first class letters

Afternoon.

So, we have now been told that, if you can't complete your delivery, you should filter out tracked and all 1st class letters for deliver. Failure to do so will be dealt with under a conduct code.

Where do we stand on this ? Surely it's against the USO to treat some letters different from other letters? Is there any documentation that we can produce if we are brought up on a conduct?

NB! Our union rep is off sick at the moment and his cover is still getting his feet under the door, so not much helping that regards.

We were told similar today, without the conduct part. They said they had done a trial exercise the day before and they only found 10 on each round. I had 32 on mine today, explained that I would need to drop a pair of loops to do them, they agreed and we finished 15 minutes late.
No way will we be able to complete packets and parcels, plus 1st class on a day the rest day is not covered. Like previously requested , when they did this on the tracked, they need to give us a written instruction on the priorities- they won’t do this

On my delivery I do all the tracked which takes me upto my time, while my partner does a few loops, so they are expecting to you to do all the first class letters every day on the delivery too?

What they are asking is sometimes unrealistic and unachievable.
Nobody has been taken down the conduct route as far as I am aware.
It seems a fairly hollow threat.

If first class mail is failing that is down to insufficient resources.
There is only one person who should be conducted. The COM.

It's the same in our office, I am still unclear on how it should work.

On a busy day when I'm on my own should I do all tracked first and if I have time get the first class done or do them both together and bring back tracked and first class at the end.

Our manager seems to think if he says just don't bring back first class or tracked it's achievable. They don't seem to realize that prioritizing certain things the less efficiently your working.

If you just worked how you normally would doing loops and parcels together until your finish time, then bringing back what ever you had left you would get a lot more done than cutting off and driving round with letters and parcels.

Are Households aka D2D classed as 1st class mail at your DO clash?

Are Dr's/Hospital appointment letters 1st or 2nd? We can recognise them (sometimes they have an obvious return address or the NHS logo) but they don't have a 'class' indication on them, just the RM cruciform.

It's down to whatever service was used. iLSMs and I'd assume IMPs as well extract the high priority ones which get sent in separate trays to the DOs.

Re D2D, the question has been asked.
I agree with the idea that filtering out mail means less work gets done but that doesn't seem to be an issue.
I would like something in writing to back up argument that this is against the USO. The new USO still insists that 2nd class mail gets delivered, just on a every other day timescales. We have routes that go four dates with just 1st class letters delivered.
As for NHS letters, they didn't have 1 on so not counted as 1st class. However, I was given some RNIB letters to be delivered as 1st class so it seems arbitrary.
And no, I work to my time and don't start before it either.

Our manager said if running out of time then do tracked and bring back 1st class if necessary,no threat of conduct and not put in writing but said it in front of about 50 of us at a meeting.
