Ballot pledge New Entrants by Sept?
As a new entrant now in my 25 month I wondered what happened to the CWUs pledge of
“We will agree the first step by September 2025”
Take it they’ll be working over the weekend on it ?

Thought they said they start talks in September then by December you will find out when/how you are getting what the legacy workers get.

Step one September.
Expect equalisation by 2035.
And by then it'll probably be a pay cut for the old contracts as there won't be many left compared to new

Don't hold your breath, on my main issues that I would like to see equal, same hourly rate, delivery supplement, no Sundays and paid breaks, I can see us prob getting one, the same hourly rate.. If anything Royal Mail want us all on the new contracts

Instead of focusing on how much it COSTS to bring new entrants up to same pay rate, why aren’t they mentioning just how much the company are SAVING with these new contracts.

If new entrants didn't agree to work Sundays then they wouldn't have been employed by RM, it's the one thing the CWU said they won't be able to changefadetogrey63 wrote: ↑30 Aug 2025, 08:09Don't hold your breath, on my main issues that I would like to see equal, same hourly rate, delivery supplement, no Sundays and paid breaks, I can see us prob getting one, the same hourly rate.. Re: Ballot pledge New Entrants by Sept?
Because the company now has every financial incentive to keep it. RM have already recruited dozens of new staff on inferior terms in our office alone. Even if the CWU negotiates a pathway towards equalisation, management are likely to stall, citing “market conditions” or financial losses. Immediately levelling up all the new contracts would wipe out the hundreds of millions in projected annual savings.
Also, splitting staff into two groups weakens our collective solidarity and history shows where this leads. It happened in airlines, rail and public services. When Keith Williams was CEO of British Airways, new cabin crew were taken on with much lower pay and longer hours than existing staff - and sadly he managed to do exactly the same during his tenure at RM.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Yeah, I agree. It's just the way the CWU are going about it, nodding in agreement with the company about how much it's going to cost 'poor' Royal Mail to bring in. They don't need to FIND this money from anywhere, it already exists every time a legacy contract leaves and is replaced with a new contract.postslippete wrote: ↑30 Aug 2025, 15:53

If they don't find it from somewhere they'll never return to profitability, you fear the CWU are living in dreamland if they think RM are going to fully equalise everything from paid lunch breaks to the delivery supplement, you sense there's more chance of legacy staff losing the delivery supplement.

Re: Ballot pledge New Entrants by Sept?
Can’t argue with that - but those of us who went from agency to contract post strike (all of whom refused to work strike days!) foolishly started on contract before actually receiving our contracts - and foolishly thought we’d receive same contracts as existing staff - in fact those of us offered contracts at that time weren’t interviewed and just offered contracts via email with no mention of reduced terms or conditions - particularly no mention of Sundays or reduced hourly rates !!A2B wrote: ↑30 Aug 2025, 15:04If new entrants didn't agree to work Sundays then they wouldn't have been employed by RM, it's the one thing the CWU said they won't be able to changefadetogrey63 wrote: ↑30 Aug 2025, 08:09Don't hold your breath, on my main issues that I would like to see equal, same hourly rate, delivery supplement, no Sundays and paid breaks, I can see us prob getting one, the same hourly rate.. It came as a huge shock during our first week to find this out - but by then you’d waited several weeks and commuted ourselves to the position - yes we could have left but the honest fact is is that there wasn’t, and still isn’t, a raft of jobs available for 58 year old job seekers !!
I don’t actually care about paid breaks or minimum wage - but working 5 out of every 6 weekends is tough
But hey hoe !!
