Fatigue is an issue on the core days apparently (shocker!).

They're looking at the non-driver issue especially re Saturdays when only drivers are required.

Interestingly on the Facebook post about the video Jason Perez who I believe is the rep who was lauded as working so well with the managers in launching the early trials has commented that Newton Mearns is only working because the spare staff are clearing up the cut offs every day. Strangely this fact isn't mention by Tony.

It's what we all know double day every day can't be done in a 7:24 or even a 7:48 day. This needs binning off soon and a different plan needs proposing by the CWU or the whole thing is destined to fail.

Why can’t they just come out and say it. Non drivers will not be working Saturdays/or won’t be working as many Saturdays as the drivers. Stop coming out with absolute nonsense like “van assistant” and “electric hct”. There is no viable way for a non driver to work Saturdays under this new USO system. Royal Mail wants the savings from this, they won’t be paying non drivers to work Saturdays prepping D2Ds or being some sort of ride along carer for the van driver.
It’s all bollocks anyway and it’s never gunna work, this time next year the public will be lucky to get one delivery per week of mail.

There is a viable way to facilitate workers with contractual variations - singleton duties such as HCT duties. The CWU are colluding in driving workers with contracts that do not fit Martin's profit driven delivery method out of the industry.

So many people with long service will be leaving in the near future, working on a single duty for multiple years and then expected to van share doing 2 duties and then double mail on another for 9hrs Some will stick with it but most will go one way or another

The biggest reason Newton Mearns is working is because they have 20 duties, all single vans.
Only 10 duties a day get all items, so that is split between all 20 staff - 1/2 a duty each basically. The remaining 10 duties of parcels and 1C are again split between all staff, 1/2 a duty each. So no one is doing all mail or all parcels each day - this was their solution to fatigue. If anything, it sounds like they have it better than before (I imagine they cleared office everyday) as they are only doing 1/2 a duty of walking each day and they more Saturdays off. They are basically running with 5 extra staff - so of course it's going to work.

This may seem obvious to some, but what is actually happening on these core days and why are posties fatigued?...

Aren't different trial offices working different schedules/attendance patterns, so different lengths of day... is it a specific attendance pattern, or all attendance patterns that are causing fatigue?

Are posties carrying heavy bags instead of using trolleys or reducing loop sizes?

Are the people that are fatigued 50+ or is it everyone? are fit 20 year olds dropping like flies?

Are these posties that are fatigued doing overtime?

How many steps / miles are these posties walking per day?

I imagine the issue of fatigue is greater for those staff who are used to doing a mostly driving duty, to be alternated onto a mostly walking duty the next day.

I presume your a non-driver like myself. Just give us every saturday off, bung the drivers an extra £20 to work saturdays. Hopefully that'll stop the bastards complaining.
