British Steel plant.
I'm amazed nobody has posted an article on the British Steel plant in Scunthorpe. Bought and sold a few times between foreign governments/investors since the UK GOV sold it off as a private investment. Sound familiar?

You need a heading like 'When will the CWU achieve renationalisation of the postal industry now the new labour government has saved the steel industry?'.

It's never going to happen though. You need to hit these people where it hurts, ie in their pockets, by voting them out or stopping paying 4 quid a week to be f****d over.tramssirhc wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 18:57You need a heading like 'When will the CWU achieve renationalisation of the postal industry now the new labour government has saved the steel industry?'.

For the last 20 years of government ownership it was an unmitigated disaster.tramssirhc wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 18:57You need a heading like 'When will the CWU achieve renationalisation of the postal industry now the new labour government has saved the steel industry?'.
Have a little imagination, a form of employee ownership would be much more welcome.

It isn't very snappy as a title though is it.tramssirhc wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 18:57You need a heading like 'When will the CWU achieve renationalisation of the postal industry now the new labour government has saved the steel industry?'.
Most of Gen Z will have fallen asleep by achieve.
And have they really saved the steel industry?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: British Steel plant.
It's awfully odd that you would ask this question. Why else would the UK government be putting emergency laws through to save billions of pounds worth of UK wealth generation, owned by a foreign government before they shut it down? Why do you even care?

Re: British Steel plant.
As this horrific British Steel story has unfolded over the last week or so it got me thinking when the hell will this country’s governments learn. Here we are in a situation where there’s a distinct possibility that this is sabotage as the evidence points to the running down of the steelworks being a deliberate ploy for a foreign state to gain control over our ability to defend itself.
Yet here we are where RM is about to land in the hands of a foreign investor…….and for what reason? That is the key thing - nobody seems to be able to put their finger on why The Sphincter is so desperate to get hold of it. Warning lights should be flashing especially after the present & past government just waved it through as a matter of course. In today’s world the likelihood of an ulterior motive is highly likely.
The current RM board (mind you the current CEO is foreign so won’t give a s**t anyway) and certainly the CWU leadership should be embarrassed that they too are condoning this.

Just imagine if he does destroy the mail service and we have another pandemic, or even WW3, and there's no mail service left to delivery test kits and the like. As far as the CWU are concerned once the Labour party rubber stamp the deal then it become pointless the union trying to fight it.GRS wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 19:52As this horrific British Steel story has unfolded over the last week or so it got me thinking when the hell will this country’s governments learn. Probably what the Steel Union said at the time of the sell off to this Chinese Company - these Unions are supposed to fight for the best of the employees and future of the business and who it serves not throw the towel in because they’ve been promised they can also line their pockets.TopperGas wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 20:01Just imagine if he does destroy the mail service and we have another pandemic, or even WW3, and there's no mail service left to delivery test kits and the like. There's no mail service as it is, hasn't been since March 2020. If you look at Dannys modus operandai for making money, it's what he does. Buy up wealthy failing companies and asset strip them down to failure. Massive personal profit for minimal hassle.TopperGas wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 20:01Just imagine if he does destroy the mail service and we have another pandemic, or even WW3, and there's no mail service left to delivery test kits and the like. Re: British Steel plant.
I was thinking about this today. If it's so strategically important, what was it doing being sold off in the first place?
The post-war economic order was founded on the idea that a repeat of the Second World War could be prevented if every country was economically dependent on each other (ie, autarky is inherently destabilising). For example, offshoring all manufacturing over to China was supposed to 1) offset stagnation of wages in the West by lowering the price of consumables and 2) neutralise China as a hostile power by bringing them into the global fold and, assumedly, a liberal economy would engender a liberal political regime. It did not, and now the West has no leverage over them.
Like appeasement, was it well-intentioned naïvety or (I don't want to drop the t-word here) sympathy for other powers above one's own?
The machine stops.

!!!!!!CORRUPTION!!!!!
Pure and simple greed by those in positions of power to put themselves ahead of anything else.
Sound familiar??? Just as the current Board & Union Leadership are doing right now.
In time to come will this country rue the day that they just stood aside and allowed these greedy Spivs to line their own pockets?????
