Refusing to do double mail

Hi there

Can I refuse to do a duty tomorrow with double mail?
Basically I’ve done double mail every day this week apart from Monday and Im completely fed up.
My back is aching and there are plenty of people in the office who aren’t ever moved around.
As tomorrow has early finish I am really not happy to take double mail out again
The managers know I’m not happy but just fob me off because essentially I always help out and usually get moved / do double mail a couple of days a week nearly every week to help them
But what I want to know is if tomorrow I genuinely refuse to do the duty will I get disciplined ? Does anyone have any experience of this working etc ?
I’m very calm and wont act out but just plan on refusing.

(I’m rest week cover for 5 duties and the duty I’m actually meant to be on this week will have single mail as I did double mail on it today and I want to take that out)

Having been there in the past i can understand your angst, but refusing to do a duty and refusing to complete a duty because you haven't time are two different things, a refusal by you to take the mail out on that duty could be refusing a reasonable request.
Maybe stop being so helpful, mainly because the managers will take advantage.
This was one of the reasons i decided o/t was not for me anymore.
Take the double mail and finish on time.

From my point of view it looks like the manager has noticed you're always willing to help out and sees you as an easy target to exploit.
Nothing will change unless you speak out and refuse and stand your ground.

You need to read and understand the agreement on commitment to deliver. If you are unable to complete in the duty time you need to bring that to the employers attention before you leave for delivery. There are a number of options that can be used to assist you. Long and short is if you don't want to go over you don't have to.

No. You cannot refuse a reasonable request. If you point blank refuse to do the duty, then yes you could and probably will be disciplined.

BUT, AND THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT, you can refuse to do overtime. Simply inform your manager before you start tieng up that you will be finishing on time no matter what, and probably won't deliver everything. Then, relax, take all your breaks, don't rush, and you'll enjoy the day a lot more.

Tell them you’re not going over and you either cut off before you go out or ring them later in the morning informing them of what you will be bringing back.
Have you actually picked the cover duty? If you’ve picked a duty you gave a right to stay on it- well, according to our rep anyway, don’t know how true it is.

The only real issue is the weight on your shoulders as your hours are your hours and doesnt really matter how they are filled so you cant say no im afraid.

What you can do is tell the manager that you are working your hours and dont wish to do OT to clear and because the round has double mail it is very likely it wont be possible to be completed within your normal hours especially given you will need to use a trolley or resupply from the van constantly to take the load off your back.

Then its on the manager to do what that information as they see fit

Stick to your guns that you arent working over and get a clear answer as to what they want taken out, if they want you to make sure the tracked are done etc and if they want you to contact them to let them know undelivered mail will be coming back.

Don’t take it all, split the loops up and relax. You won’t be able to nip off early but you’ll get done on time.

And don't get wound up when you get back on time and notice all the walks that have put their d2ds in and still f****d off home before you finished without being told to help

Depends how “bothered” you are by being disciplined. What’s the worst that can happen? You’ll be suspended on full pay for a few days. Doubt they’d go down that route if they’re that short staffed already but even if they do is a few days off fully paid that bad!

As many have said it is pretty simple

Tell the manager before you go out that under no circumstances will you go over your time - make that clear

Prep at your normal speed
Take your breaks
Relax

To add - i know some people do not like conflict or the attention...but sometimes you simply have to stand up for yourself or they will keep at you.
