It's a secret shopper, person is is put on disciplinary because they didn't ask for i.d.

Person has worked for royal mail for 20 years and had no other major mistakes and genuinely thought they could hand over item.

Also since this time royal mail has released posters saying 'we are now making it clearer when you need to ask for i.d' therefore it wasn't clear in the first place?

The chap was in his seventies....if I selected neither the prompt was you had to deliver it the next day!

But then the next day had another age verification and it didn't do this. Wonder if they were just testing something out......

Yeah this is something they have changed on the pdas since the initial incident.

It's pretty hard to bypass the security on the scanner by mistake, that being said we recently had weeks in our area of the age verification items just coming up as normal tracked on the scanner.

Half the time people can’t find their house keys let alone their passport. Cut offs will be even more common if they want ID. Fair enough if they are young but if they are clearly old enough you shouldn’t need it.

And stop asking for f*****g age verification for normal run of the mill items. Knocking a door last week & explained to a customer that as the parcel was an age verification item I needed her year of birth (which she willingly gave). She was baffled though as the parcel contained a jumper & some colouring books!! In our office posties have had this for things like a cat litter tray & dinky cars.

That’s a bloody good point. In a shop a sales assistant cant for example sell alcohol, paracetamol etc if they’re under a certain age (probably 18).

Doesn't the pda ask of the customer looks over 25? Maybe if you click no then it asks for the id type but if you click yes then that question doesn't appear. It seems crazy to see a driving license for someone that is 70+. It also seems a bit personal asking for year of birth. Someone buying a kitchen knife to commit murder (even though they have a kitchen full) could easily lie about their age. They could also have fake ID. Them what? Are we supposed to analyse it using our fake ID training. Bottom line is, if someone is crazy enough to want to stab someone. No amount of RM nonsense will stop them.

I had one where the guy was under 25 and had to ask him to fetch either a driver's licence or passport per PDA instruction. Luckily I had delivered the latter just recently so it didn't take too long. I thought maybe the next step would be scanning the passport, although I realised the GDPR implications of that would be a worse crime than any hypothetical stabbings. All I looked at was the photo and the DOB. I never even thought to look for holograms or any other security feature because whilst I've signed four different sheets about AV items, I have no training whatsoever when it comes to authenticating valid ID.

Anyway, is there a glut of steak knives on the international market lately?
