CWU:Davie Robertson talks to CWU Live about increased synergy between Royal Mail and Parcelforce.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What does "increased synergy" actually mean, that RM will be delivering even more large parcels for PF, as I doubt they are going to be taking more of RM's small parcels?

No you will not be taking Parcelforce Parcels we will be taking yours over shoe box size starting in JULY ,
We will be switching to royal mail PDAS and routing system in JUNE .

Will Royal Mail drivers still get the bulky parcels or will they be exclusively going to PF?

In the full interview Davie Robertson does not make that clear ,
But we have been told there is going to be a lot of investment in PARCELFORCE starting in June with the IT upgrade and then a huge increase of parcels heading our way from royal mail at the end of July .
As usual I do not think we are getting the full story from the CWU .

That helps. Bigger parcels take up too much room in Royal Mail vans when van-sharing. They also often mean loading up the van twice as you need 2 yorks. + there seems to be a cliff-edge sometimes when you end up with over 50 parcels it means you are basically guaranteed to not complete your round on the medium to heavy mail days.

If RM lose all parcels over shoebox size to Parcelforce that's a lot of work going from delivery offices

But royal mail are not doing this to make your Job easier ,
There are surely going to be job losses if PARCELFORCE are taking work off you .
plus on the new system they are thinking of doing is that not 3 posties doing the work of 4 , put these two thing together and it could be a lot of Jobs lost .

It would make RM's new system workable if we lost large parcels but obviously would mean a big cut in staff which I think we all can see coming

There was mention of c14 million parcels per annum being diverted. That seems a small proportion of RM overall parcel volumes…. I suspect it will only be in areas where it makes operational or economic sense to lose the oversized to PFW, eg, town HCT walks, but who knows.

It's not so much the amount of parcels it's the volume in size, more work in less vans = less vans/drivers required.

If you want the company to listen you'll have to drop some keywords in there like 'AI', 'drones' (not us), and 'synergy'.
The machine stops.

Could some of that be all the SDs?

Good….let PF take the lot. We know why RM want PF to take the work - they’re Owner Drivers!!

It could be some of the SDs, but I’m not sure it would be all of SDs. A LWB Sprinter would struggle to access quite a few of our more rural DPs, and in one or two cases it would be impossible.
