Dangerous Vehicle

Hello All. My depot is currently in possession of a Fiat Doblo which does not accelerate properly. I am required to join a dual carriageway at 50MPH and it is impossible to get it up to speed.

My manager won't get rid of it. He recently mentioned that it will be taken off the road and then back tracked. Not sure why. But regarding the van, is there anything that I can do in terms of reporting it.

The engine light is on, but other drivers don't seem to have an issue with it, so I don't know of I'm being too sensitive.

Any advice welcome. Thanks.

If the engine light is on, that would be MOT fail, so it shouldn’t go on road. If it went bang they would blame you for taking it out knowing that there was a fault.

Possible stupid question but is it displaying that it needs dpf regen ? If that's ignored then they lose power as you described, if not it simply needs a PMT doing and sending to the garage for investigation.

Sounds like it's in limp mode due to the pdf being clogged. The diablos have a fix which is in the handbook. They can be left stationary in high revs to clear the dpf. If you can't do this pmt it for an engine fault.

End of the day just pmt it and point blank refuse to drive it. Log it down on your PDA when doing the vehicle checks as well.

If you have an accident in a van that’s faulty/un-road worthy and you know about it, it’ll be your fault.

As others have said, sounds like pdf is clogged and is in limp mode. Happens quite frequently to our doblo’s and they have to send for the mechanic to come down to do a forced regen.

No idea mate. I’d say that’s partly the reason. The other reason is down to the fact that the van is about 10 years old or older and no longer offers the regen and goes straight into limp mode.

I know we’ve had a few Doblo’s that the mechanic has had to come out to because of regen problems. He just sits h there for 10 - 15 mins with his foot on the accelerator. Somebody will open a door and diesel fumes enter the office choking everyone. Lovely

The engine regeneration can be done by you (if you wish), no need for an engineer.

There is a 13 or 14 step procedure to follow and takes about 10 or 15 mins in total. If you see a yellow light in the shape of a fish, then it needs doing within a day or two.

Thankfully we lost our Fiat Diablo about 3 or 4 years ago now.

Could have been driven too long with the DPF light on or so old it's needs the Workshop to override the system and boot it into a regen. Regardless it just needs a PMT and somebody from the workshop to fix the issue.
