It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Gives you a score for driving performance, first time delivery performance ( sometimes this isn’t correct) collections score, comments from the public, etc.

I'm not watching that video it's bad enough a manager explaining how great it is but I definitely can't stomach a postie telling us how it's completely transformed their performance since they started looking at it

Royal Mail: We have a MyPerformance app to help posties improve their performance.
Also...
Royal Mail: We have destroyed the service by understaffing our offices and making rounds way too big resulting in Ofcom fining us millions because our performance is so bad.

Seeing as they don’t monitor it how comes we’re now getting a printed sheet in pretty colour pinned up on the board showing how long before or after delivery commencement time you went out, how many minutes over your meal relief you were stationary, how many minutes early you returned to the DO etc.
The one that is really galling is the one that shows how many minutes you were stationary over your meal relief allowance. It shows this time as a lump unit so the manager & or rep comes up to you & says “you were stationary for 15 minutes over your meal relief allowance etc etc”. However this time isn’t one lump where you’ve just parked up doing nothing, it’s added up by writing P739’s, doing customer collects, tidying the van, looking for a parcel amongst the umpteen other packets & bags, getting caught by a customer who wants to chat for a few minutes or another who has a query about something. In fact in the real world that us people operate in when on the streets there can be a whole myriad of reasons to lose minutes here & there over a 5/5:30 delivery span. But they actually approach it as “ you’ve been caught taking the piss”!!!!
We have a RM suit comes into our office around 3 times a week (purely because we’re the nearest to his home) who works on all these stats for numerous DOs. I don’t know if anyone has seen these stats that RM are producing & working to from info gathered by the PDAs but it is actually breathtaking & surreal. You would be shocked to see what they can bring up about every person on their delivery at any time of the day. On top of this they can produce facts & figures for every day, week, month, quarter & year. They have been garnering this info for so long they have the full picture of everything you are & aren’t doing.
This guy opened up page upon page of stats on my walk when i asked him what stats he had. Even if you’re someone who goes in every day to work your absolute best you in effect are being criminalised by the data they are capturing. No matter what you say they point to a different stat to prove you wrong on something, it’s a typical case of them reading stats to tell the story they want.

I agree, they have a huge amount of data garnered from every member of staff going back years. All stored digitally for instant recall by those authorised to do so in an office. Which begs the question - what is the end game with this data? What are they using it/going to use it for?

Re: RMCtv : Celebrating MyPerformance one year anniversary
Personally I think The Sphincter is behind all of this. Once he takes over he’s got all this data at his fingertips to say “this office needs X hours to function efficiently & at present it’s using XX hours, goodbye to xxx amount of you you’re not needed & if those of you left can’t perform within those budgeted hours you’re out too”.
As Perseus said, there must be an end goal to all this data gathering, they’re not doing it for the fun of it. Personally I think either the union are having the wool pulled over their eyes or they’re the ones pulling it over ours but I reckon the next couple of years will be a bloodbath.

It's called micromanaging and has been proven time immemorial that it does nothing but piss off the workerGRS wrote: ↑27 Feb 2025, 20:28Seeing as they don’t monitor it how comes we’re now getting a printed sheet in pretty colour pinned up on the board showing how long before or after delivery commencement time you went out, how many minutes over your meal relief you were stationary, how many minutes early you returned to the DO etc.

Re: RMCtv : Celebrating MyPerformance one year anniversary
Aye, let's all celebrate the anniversary of the new micro-management tool - the PDA. And the business are relentless in their pursuit of getting people to look at the myperformance app. Should I worry about the impact that I am having to the environment if my driver idling time was marginally higher yesterday than the day before? Do I really care if my 1st time delivery performance is only 95.7% instead of 100%?
These stats are just the tip of the iceberg and managers have a lot more information on their dashboards. Whilst we are engaging with this new tech and RM managers are sat there constantly monitoring the data, the business are finding meaningful ways to push us off onto the slippery slope called "performance management".

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
