Not heard of it but not surprised. Are you in a pilot office and is this linked to the new way of working? Already been lots of questions as to what a non driver will be doing.

Have they given you options as to what walks are available to you? Are there HCT walks available?

I thought royal mail would be looking at removing hcts..now that we are in a parcel driven world the hcts only fit in 30 parcels with the mail and packets..I'm on a hct duty and I'm thinking they will be looking me gone because it's parcels parcels parcels.hcts are great round the town but that's all they really are now a days .unless your close to the office all the time to go back and refill..

They need to give you a reason, unless the specific duty you are after has been ring fenced or something?
Is it because they need minimum 3 out of 4 people to drive over 2 shared van duties to cover walker, driver, driver, and day off cover? And perhaps someone has already taken the walking gig?

Why wouldnt you be? Many offices only have van share duties.

Not Me . Talking to a postie on holiday here. He reckons his office is having things slipped in that shouldn’t be. Small office and no union rep and not pilot one either. Non drivers forced onto HCTs and 2 drivers on shared vans no passenger

It's only legal to have 2 postman sharing the driving on a duty if they perform a van check every time they change driver. Uninsured otherwise. The union has previously confirmed this. Also Royal Mail require you perform a van check every time you take charge of a van. Think of the time wasted if everyone performed their duties properly if they were told to work this way by a dodgy manager

In the grand scheme of things that really doesn't sound that bad. I mean, there will always be a driver that knows the shared van route on it when the other is off.

Have you considered that they maybe won't be swapping driving all during the day? Seems more likely that it's a case of management always making sure that someone that knows the driving parts of the routes are on it. No one knows for certain.

Martin Walsh has said today that they will be trialing non drivers doing IPS/Prep of Mondays mail on the Saturday and also trialling them being ''van assistants'' to assist with delivery of 1st class/tracked to see which is more viable
