USO Pilots- Any Positives?

Having heard about the pilots and what they would mean for our way of working, has anyone found a positive?

Only one I can think of is the possibility of an extra day off per fortnight but that comes with a hefty negative of longer busier days that outweigh it anyway imho.

Exactly. Longer days = longer time to recover. Meaning the days off are useless as you are too fatigued.

Once the buyout goes through IDS will be delisted from the stock market and become a private company so the shareholders as we see it now will cease

There won’t be any positives for those on the coal face, never is and never will be. As I’ve said before, enjoy these lighter days as this will end when ( not if ) they bring this in. I just hope it takes as long as possible to implement, as I’m on my own on a good singleton duty.

You would have thought that a singleton duty would be the one duty in an office where this new method could be made to work because you’d have only one person to manage it but no, they’ve ruined that by making you work on another duty on the alternate days, so there really is no respite from double mail + days.

Precisely, they’ll take away any enjoyment that might be felt doing this job. Ah well, I’ll see how it goes and where it leaves me, then I’ll decide what I can do. They are doing all that they can to annoy those on legacy contracts, I see one or two on this board are leaving, we are starting to see people where I work leave, just what RM want.

I'm on a singleton duty in a village where everyone knows each other, they are so lovely to me and to the previous postie that had the round for years with very good Xmas tips but it's also people like these I also feel sorry for because they won't benefit anymore from that interaction with their own postie who knows us by first name, has a bit of a chat and it worked so well. No one ever put in a complaint ever.
Royal Mail simply do not give a damn about the customers at all.
This has twisted my arm to leave in a week too otherwise I would have stayed if things were to stay the same but I know exactly what is coming and it's a hurricane. Make the most of Mondays and Tuesdays because you will never have an easy day again when it's triple mail at the beginning of the week followed by double mail Wed to Fri

Can I ask why there aren’t more singleton duties?

I had to finish early yesterday so myself and Van share were split and had a van each on the largest frames in the office.

We both completed and made it back early…

Just seems to me that when working all by yourself you work you get more done, so wouldn’t that be more productive for the company?

Probably because RM would have to buy/lease about 50,000 extra vans...

Yup, pretty obvious answer to be fair.

Maybe mopeds and side cars is the route they should go down. Probably be a cheaper alternative.

Or here's a better idea, maybe RM should allocate 6-8 posties to an old Sherpa van and let them use grey boxes to replenish their bags to deliver around their walks. The Sherpa drivers could even drop off the bags and deliver the larger packets as their duty!
