Transfer from one delivery office to another

Hope this is posted in the right place. I have had a look through the forums and can't find any information on this.

I currently work as a postie in one delivery office, which is a bit of a trek from my house. I'm looking to move to one nearer to where I live. I popped into the delivery office I hope to move to, and they have confirmed they have vacancies.

I know of other posties who have moved from one office to another, and just wondered if anyone here is able to shed any light on how it all works? I haven't definitely decided to make the move just yet, but I'm interested to see if it's possible and how you go about doing it. Is it the case of simply speaking to your manager about moving, or does the union need to get involved?

Also is a 4 week 'Wally' better than a 9 day fortnight?

Hopefully, moves are still possible in light of the recent takeover.

Hi I know of 3 colleagues that transferred Delivery Offices. The first guy I think of, he kept on saying he was transferring and it took an age, and colleagues said it was difficult now than when it used to be. The other two went easily, one to a DO 6 or 7 miles away, the other to Norfolk which is a fair old way from my DO, and he had previously transferred from a DO near London, then to one up the road, then to my DO then to Norfolk and it didn't take that long. So I think its not too hard if you speak to DOM of office you want to transfer to. I don't know for certain though as I have never tried. As regards to Wallinghton Weeks (or the Hereford System as it is also known) compared to 9 day fortnight, well I wouldn't know, sorry, I have only ever done rotational rest days with 1 in 6 and a long weekend at the end (like me this week lol, not back til Wed, as had a day in lieu as Christmas Day was my rest day!). Hopefully others can help you but I don't think it's impossible as some had led me to believe, anyway, good luck! Hope it works out for you!

If you have worked for the business for over 6 months you are eligible for a transfer. If the office that you want to move to are short staffed and the current office that you are working in isn't, then it is very likely that your transfer will move quickly. I know of someone who wanted to transfer to their local office and had to wait over two years before they could transfer because it was a much smaller office and there weren't any vacancies.

It is always best to speak to the DOM at the office that you want to transfer to in person.

According to sources on here it is working 5 days one week, 4 days the next. However, the 4 days will be longer days to make up the contractual hours with the advantage of having every other Saturday off?
