Hi Guys. I can’t get on with any RM foot wear. I have a local JD Sports. Any suggestion for off the shelf trainers from here or elsewhere please?

Be careful mate. If you have a accident on duty wearing non issue rm Trainers/Shoes/boots. The first thing they will ask if you where wearing rm trainers.

Few tips bud. Try to break into the rm trainers. Put on 2 pairs of socks lol. Put on plasters back of ur heal.

Insoles. Finding the right insoles to suit your feet will make all the difference.

I wear high heels... there super efficient especially in the snow I find there's better traction on them...

Get a doctors letter that your having problems with royal mail footwear causing foot problems and you need alternative footwear of your choice

Any footwear you do purchase has to meet the criteria laid out in the procedure. All black for a start. As for an accident on duty whilst wearing footwear that is not supplied by the employer - the footwear is supplied as part of the uniform not as ppe to prevent accidents. It's not ppe.

The usual nonsense on here , just buy yourself a pair that your happy with, it’s what virtually everyone does.

On the uniform site it is listed under PPE not general uniform. Not that I'm arguing it isn't all garbage.

Under the regulations covering the provision of personal protective equipment the footwear would not meet the criteria. It's not fit for purpose and it's primary purpose is longevity of use. If it truly was to prevent slips and trips there would be no need to issue additional equipment in adverse weather conditions. However any footwear not provided by the employer must meet the criteria laid out in the uniform procedure.

Fair enough as a short term solution but try and find a pair of RM issued footwear that you can get on with. You're going to be getting through at
least a pair every 3 months so makes sense not to be spending your hard earned cash on them.

I love the guys in our ofice that go through Sketcher Trainers at the same pace as I'm wearing out RM gear. I find the Bandera Model suits me fine but we're all different.

Any recommendations on which is better?

I prefer something light weight and less bulky so I’m leaning towards the trainer, but the walking shoe seems a lot better in winter weather.

If your management 'team' are the type to conduct you over footwear then speak to your doctor about it, for a tenner they will issue you a note. Then ask the union rep about claiming money back for buying footwear. 40 odd quid every 6 months last I heard

What were you wearing when you had your accident Woody? Get the other ones mate sorry for the shitty response btw you will get a lot better advice if you speak to the union reps and work colleagues at your workplace

There is a RM cross trainer type of shoe called the “Bandera” or something like that, they are okay and have a good Michelin rubber sole.

I’ve worn them in the mail centre and they are pretty comfortable out of the box.

I see a few posties round my way wearing them on their rounds.
