Parcel Lockers

When I did a search for Royal Mail parcel lockers near me, the closest option said on the Royal Mail website that there was an RM locker 0.6 miles away from my home. It turned out to be an InPost locker at a petrol station. RM seem to be late to the party on this! I see we are installing via InPost (who seem to be at all the major supermarkets) and also in partnership with Amazon, Lockars, Yeep and Quadient. Kretinsky's initial cash injection is predominantly to be used for parcel lockers apparently.

I bring this up because I work on student intensive duties. This time last year, and preceding years we were swamped by now. We are busy, but nothing like we were. I suggest that the younger iPhone savvy generations have cottoned on to the use of lockers. Often, way more efficient than RM final mile. The market has already changed and when you add this to the USO changes next year it could be a significant whammy to job losses. DPR routes are stable because mainly those size of parcels don't fit in lockers.

If I'm proved right and job losses are coming this will have a massive impact on the viability of the new CDC pension scheme going forward seeing it has been formulated based on the current collective numbers of postmen/postwomen.

No mention of parcel lockers from CWU, btw.

With auto redelivery coming in these seem vital. Deliver to an area where everyone and their dog are out at work or students like you say and your chance of getting rid of parcels drops off a cliff. This then adds to your workload the next day which might cause mail or parcels to fail. The amount of time wasted trying neighbours or looking for a safe place could be greatly reduced if people could get stuff sent to a reliable nearby locker when they have no intention of being in to take delivery of their parcel.

If the lockers are full then the project is a success. So more lockers will be added. Personally I think they're a good idea, much better than the same idiots ordering 3 parcels a day and then not being home.

A membership of at least 5,000 people is deemed to be cost effective for CDC schemes:

Oversized are up in my DO, small letterbox sized packets down, I feel there's to it than customers deciding to use lockers.

I’ve never seen anyone use any of the parcel lockers round by us

We deliver a tonne of inpost parcels to peoples houses

Maybe it’s more popular in the big cities than the more rural areas like where we are

I think they’d do better incentivising people to get parcel boxes at their houses

maybe call on the government to make it obligatory for new houses to have a parcel box, I mean letterboxes must’ve started somewhere

New build estates definitely need parcel boxes at every property. They get all of the Amazon.

If we were still the nationally owned delivery monopoly, perhaps we'd have some clout. USPS in America managed to mandate mailboxes a long time ago off the back of being a federal agency. Like low letterboxes though, the time when something could have been done has long since passed and now we're just one of many operators scooting about slinging parcels wherever.

I’ve not seen one where you can collect from it as well but that’s a great idea

Why bother going to a locker or a shop when you can just get your parcels dropped off and collected from your house even when you’re at work

maybe the CWU should think about getting posties to install parcel boxes as part of their expanding the role of posties plan

32 million houses there’s a lot of money to be made in selling and installing parcel boxes

Better than Ward’s idea about running deliveries for local businesses. This would make the company a shed load by making parcel delivery more efficient.

It’s a double win, RM could make money installing the boxes and deliver more parcels per hour once they’re installed plus no pointless time consuming re delivery attempts

Oh except I don’t think that’d help with the current Royal Mail plan of devaluing the company so it can be sold off cheap so Keith Williams can get a huge bonus to retire on

They are a good idea but feel RM are late in the game.The Post Office network could have been utilised to have these installed outside their premises but instead RM undercut them with Customer Collection from home prices.

We are already behind the curve when it comes to parcel lockers as our competitors already have them. As regards the parcel locker that I've posted it is already available for customers to buy on Amazon and I'm sure that they are already delivering them.

Off topic, Amazon will have made billions of pounds from black Friday worldwide and there is a petition demanding that the government close tax loopholes on Amazon.
