I've crunched the numbers, and "Regular" seasonal hours don't work out right

Post by cheerful »

I've put the "Regular" seasonal hours into a spreadsheet, and over an average 5 days work week:

Full timers are working 37 hours and 50 seconds.
30 hour contracts are working 30 hours 18 minutes.
27.5 hour contracts are working 27 hours 48 minutes.
25 hour contracts are working 25 hours 10 minutes.

Aren't the "Regular" seasonal hours supposed to be the number of hours on the contract?

Even without doing fancy maths, it's clear that the 27.5H contract should do 5.5H per day (but has extra minutes added on Tue/Sat), and the 25H contract should do 5H per day (but has extra minutes added on Sat).

It would be easier if they just had all of us start at the same time and have the job as 'job and finish' - you stay out to complete, but have the following rules:

-Our pay is increased by 10% to 20%.
-All duties are setup to be as close to being even and fair as possible.
-The maximum amount of Tracked parcels you take each day is 45. The rest are taken by parcel drivers.
-Managers should be making sure 2 days mail or more never occurs and should be strictly judged on this.
-If a postie is left with 2 day's mail on their round then they are to be paid 30% extra for that day and all the Tracked is to be taken off them.
-There will be rare circumstances when mail coming into your office is delayed, you have a van breakdown, etc etc... in these circumstances you won't be obliged to complete.
-This setup allows flexibility, but posties won't be staying out beyond 3pm unless they are genuinely slow.
-The average postie should be returning to the office between 2pm and 2.30pm each day. If the average postie is arriving back before 2pm then the number of Tracked to be taken needs to be increased.

Benefits:

-Better pay.
-Work gets done.
-Less stress.
-Posties know where they stand. Virtually no conversations needed with management about what to take or what you brought back.
-Toxic culture massively reduced.
-Double mail reduced.
-Royal mail will require less line managers (reduced costs)
-Very little overtime for Royal mail to pay (reduced costs)
-USO being adhered to.

God Norris this utopia you talk about might get me to work on until past retirement age, on the other hand anything resembling sensible is usually ignored and tossed on the trash heap.
I am sure somebody will read this and pass it on to RM, then they will toss it on........ you know where i am going with this.

I like the bit about not working past 3pm. Especially as we currently finish at 4.40pm on a Wednesday and Thursday.

Every office seems to have different daily start and finish times, so the times shown only apply to your own DO? It's odd you work longer days on Tuesday's than Monday's and also Saturday's. Have you discussed your findings with your DOM &/or union rep?

Maximum of 45 Tracked a day!!!!! Blimey I’d be doing less than half my daily workload, wouldn’t know myself!!!!
