Just out of curiosity. If a neighbouring DO is struggling bad, do you ever get forced to move temporarily or even permanently?

Would need danger pay to work out of some nearby DOs

Difficult to say really, if your do is struggling more then most probably not, I can't remember the last time anyone got sent either from or to our place it must be well over five years ago, you might be lucky.

I was sent to three other offices for a couple of days and a week at one. It’s a bit traumatic haha, but interesting at the same time - not all offices are run the same and you get to see the good and bad points of the different office buildings.

You’d be unlikely to be sent to another office permanently though.

In my first year I would get sent to other DOs on occasion but now nobody moves because we are understaffed.

I got moved once and once only.... it was actually a really easy day for me. I drove for 25 minutes to another office and they had 3 loops for me to do, then I drove the 25 minutes back. It was probably the easiest day I ever had at Royal Mail.

Absolutely, but if you don't like getting moved to other offices, you start at your usual office and use their van to get to the other office. Then when you have finished your shift at the other office you then drive the van back to your usual office and state that you are only working your hours. When they find that most of your time is spent travelling and there isn't a spare van, it makes sense for them to keep you at your usual office.

If you don't have access to a private vehicle for getting to work you have the perfect reason for doing this.

Interesting, I didn't know about this, so what if I were to get asked to work on a Sunday at a diff office, I don't have a car so would I have to go to my office and use one of our vans, I thought I would have to make my own way by public transport, so I would be out of pocket

Interesting, I didn't know about this, so what if I were to get asked to work on a Sunday at a diff office, I don't have a car so would I have to go to my office and use one of our vans, I thought I would have to make my own way by public transport, so I would be out of pocket

Wouldn’t happen. The minute you started saying how you don’t have your own transport and so how do I get to this other office…. they’ll give up and ask someone else to go.

A few years ago a manager continually accused me of being awkward because I wouldn't use my car and insisted on using a van or they paid for public transport in advance to work at another depot. I let them carry on this facard and accusations for a few days before informing the idiot I cycle to work. His face was a picture.

Agree with this, most people don't have business insurance, so you'd be driving uninsured when travelling to other offices.

Absolutely, lack of business insurance might render you in bother if you have an accident on the way to another office.
But my point was, don't use your car full stop.
Why should you?- you have a place of work which is likely written in your contract.
This contract requires you to be at this office by a certain time.
Not one 15 miles away.
I was asked once and refused to use my car.
I was sent to another office when a van came available.
Much pulling of faces.
Arrived at other office and first thing I said was I need 40 minutes to get back and log van off and finish at X time.
More pulling of faces.
Ended up doing a couple of loops.
Wasn't asked again.

Yes, this is 100% the way to get the DOM off your back, as you say, make it awkward & they'll never ask again.
