As of this Friday at 3pm I will have finished my last shift at Royal Mail. I’ve done 11 years, not much compared to most on here but it’s long enough for me. Overall I’ve enjoyed the job and wish everyone well.
The one thing I’ll always look back on though is the lack of organisation and level headed thinking at most levels but I guess over time I became ‘institutionalised’ and got used to it.
I’ve worked out I’ve done 74 (I think) different rounds spread across 2 offices I worked out of, that’s a lot of new delivery points to learn!
I’ll try not to be one of those who leave the job then spend every day posting on here however I will continue to post from time to time.
Best of luck to everyone
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
All the very best pal, I jumped ship last year after four short years. Loved being a postman, then covid hit and the job u-turned and became unrecognisable. I hope you enjoy your new job and the body gets a well earned rest
I've thought about leaving many times but old habits die hard and I guess I'm getting too old to consider another career change. Once you've worked for Royal Mail for any length of time it's in the blood and there's nothing wrong with posting on this forum once you have left. The forum administrators have retired (well I know True Blue has) and still post on here don't they?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
Didn't realise BT had retired.. Good luck in your future job HT. Oldie here, want to say so much, but times change and with that sometimes it's best to just keep your own councel and get on as best you can. No rep in our office. Not seen or heard of one since they wanted us to strike. I still pay, but often wonder why and then think of the big picture. Sometimes I think too much.

Yes it’s definitely gone downhill a lot since Covid, it’s not just the job itself but the general public, it’s gone from thumbs up for your postie and cute thank you messages in chalk on the driveway to why is my parcel 5 mins outside of the estimated (key word) window.

Very true. I am in my second stint here and during my previous job I still popped on here and contributed. Thank you for your well wishes and all the best for whatever you decide to do.
