Martin Walsh says some new starters receive a loyalty bonus of up to 3000 pounds if they stay in the job for 18
months . We have had 5 new starters in 6 weeks and none of them have had this mentioned to them. Anyone know more about this ?

If you look on the RM recruitment site you'll see differing amounts are offered at some offices, presumably ones that are struggling to recruit and retain staff, I'm guessing your office isn't one of them or the new starters would be aware of it.

Yes...Thank you I had a look, mainly 3 postcode areas TN, ME and another in the southeast . Hours vary also many more late shifts presumably for parcels.

I see, was going to have a look out of interest, now I've just got in, I thought they were really struggling in some Scottish areas so thought they'd feature, at least it's something for whoever is eligible to take the edge off the new two tier workforce, it's easy to be selfish about it I've been here a while so on the old contract but it's simply not fair.

A new starter doing 30 hours a week and getting the £3000 bonus if they can stick around for 18 months. Will still be around £1700 worse off than if they were getting paid the same as the old guard (Not that I believe in that but it seems like some on here do)

Anyway, the CWU really messed up the last deal that's the whole reason the company now needs to offer these bonuses that aren't.

Some of these roles in difficult-to-recruit places also have a higher hourly rate instead of, and/or in addition to, the loyalty bonus.

I see new starters every week wondering around with that vacant clueless look on their faces.
I do actually feel sorry for them, no training & expected to walk 8-12 miles a day.
RM might say they got 10 applicants for every position advertised but I can assure you the survival rate is very low, wks rather than months.
RM has become known for shocking management, appalling planners & a work force that has given up!
It will get worse.

On the other side of the coin RM and it's absolute pigheaded attitude to steamrolling the changes in has played a huge part in the destruction of its reputation as a service provider and employer

The CWU has absolutely no authority over the business they don't "permit" or "allow" the company to do anything. They only act as a thorn in side that RM can pay attention to and deal with; either in a in a way that promotes health and growth in the business or in a completely destructive manner.

Over the last few years the business has absolutely chosen a fully self destructive path.

If I was approached by someone considering applying for a job at RM I would be honest and explain that the job itself is decent if your the right sort of person for it BUT the employer on the other hand...well ....whole other story.
Royal Mail has for years now treated it's employees like crap and not the asset that we are/could be of we were treated with even just a tiny bit more basic respect.

Add on the embarrassing performances by or most senior executives on breakfast television and at the parliamentary committee hearings, and I can't imagine there's a large number number of decent people on the outside thinking "oh I'd like to work for that company"

Now that the likes of Aldi and national "unskilled" jobs, and even local factories are paying better then the older contracts and much better than the new contracts, if I was job seeking I know whose application forms I'd be more inclined to spend my time and energy filling in.

We all have our reasons for staying, but there's not much incentive for someone to choose to join.
Heavily discounted deserts at the cake factory down the road definitely trumps a few stamps at Christmas
