Are Royal Mail still the greenest delivery option now that they’ve abandoned their “feet on the street” delivery method and now have designated parcel routes instead?

Just wandering how our latest hair brained scheme is affecting our carbon footprint that Royal Mail was so keen to lower when stopping the flights

Currently we’re trialling the 2.0 delivery system which means it’s possible for 3 posties a day to deliver to the same house (us lot with the small packets, DPR drivers and LATs)

And our yard is too small to accommodate electric vehicles so we just have absolute sheds of vans that give out plumes of smoke when you start them up

Because of the large volumes of small packets still delivered by foot RM probably lump them all together when calculating. So yes, we're the greenest.

Yes but unfortunately because our loops have to be 40min long to use 2.0 method (in real life they’re actually longer than that)

we actually have to drive around with the small packets that we would’ve ordinarily carried in our bags when the loops were shorter but they just don’t all fit in our bags

RM probably don't take that into account. It's a bit like when they make you take out much more than is possible and then management report it as clear. Although data manipulation isn't exclusive to RM. It goes on everywhere.

Royal mail own Parcelforce who are short of work and have been for a while ,
It would make economic sense and will help the so called green agenda if the DPR routes were closed and Parcelforce integrated back into royal mail
system ,
Then Parcelforce could cover all the big items and posties just do small packets .
It makes no sense to have DPR routes when you already own a parcel company who are covering the same ground .

You’re right it makes absolutely no sense to have two companies in the same group doing the exact same job

And we’re short staffed with even more posties set to leave next week

At the worst of our post revision failures we had 8 Parcelforce drivers turn up and clear the office.

One of the stated aims of the last agreement was to work towards a single parcel network.

RM won't want so spend extra on Parcel force staff. They can just deliberately fail the mail and get the parcels done at their expense. That's what they've been doing for years.

Probably something to do with selling off or returning all the premises that PF currently use. Was there not discussion about making PF some sort of driver/owner staffed, franchised operation?

I wouldn't be surprised if post the takeover PF is then combined with GLS, with the combined group delivering everything over 30Kg and everything else delivered by RM.

I'm forever baffled when I'm standing at a door trying to get rid of a radiator and Parcelforce pulls up to deliver a jiffy bag. The history of packets at RM seems to be the hokey-cokey.

Royal Mail was split into three divisions in 1986 (Royal Mail letters, Royal Mail Parcels and Post Office Counters) and in August 1990, Royal Mail Parcels was rebranded as Parcelforce. [...] In March 2002, the universal parcels service was transferred to Royal Mail, leaving Parcelforce to concentrate on time-guaranteed, next-day and two-day express deliveries.[8]

You'd think LATs would fall in Parcelforce's court. Are we now in "co-opetition" with other IDS subsidiaries?
