Breaking down after duty finish time

Missed one tracked.. was rushing back to get the collection mail to the lorry leaving so went back out to do one last parcel. Delivered it, get back in the van and it wouldn’t start. Rang RAC. Told to wait for a text or phone call back. Was pissing down with rain. Told to expect 2 hours or more. That then went up to 3. I was f***ing starving by now and ready to leave it. RAC text back and said be 20 mins. So was around 2.5 hours waiting overall. Customer was cool offered me tea or coffee etc. I rang the cover manager later after ringing rac. I had got lift down to office to try using jump leads but that didn’t work.
So yeah next morning normal manager is back and behind my back apparently she’s been fuming for some reason. Like I f****d up. Guess I did by missing a tracked and going back out. But I hadn’t booked the ot.
Should have booked it next day right? Asked yesterday but apparently it’s too late which is a lie and overtime has to go in by Monday at the latest.
On so much thin ice as it is. Or sure can be assed to argue it. Next time f**k it will leave it.

Disgraceful. Definitely book the overtime, don’t listen to it had to be in by XYZ date.

I have a very novel way of dealing with missing OT on the rare occasions it’s missed off. Firstly I give the booking staff chance to rectify it. On two occasions the DOM said I’m not having OT because no one should’ve booked it, it was a quiet day etc. The first occasion I simply extended my break by 45 mins. The second time I just started an hour later. I’m not suggesting you copy these ideas as different managers will respond differently.

OMV breakdown is an unarguable overtime payout. People are going to mess up claims from time to time when s**t is going wrong.

It’s not too late to book OT! Your manager is a liar.
Youve sign in and out which is evidence of hours worked.Approach your manager again stating you “either want paying or you are finishing early”,if no joy then put a Grievance in.
By the way ,I personally would not work overtime again.

As per other posters comments it's never too late. The cut off (sometime on a Monday) is it to appear on the pay chit the week after it's worked. That doesn't mean it can never be claimed.

Make sure the manager books it as O/T for week commencing (whatever the date w/c was) and it will come up on your pay chit as OT for the week specified.

I've used the wheel brace (if the garage haven't taken the kit out of the wagon!), but a slightly larger stone (basically anything more solid
than your hand) could work too.

Not your problem, ring the manager let him deal with it, work from the van, get someone to pick you up or bring a van out so you can finish on time.

The cut off is Monday but that means nothing because a belated claim for OT can be weeks after the event. As for the breakdown, going back out for a tracker isn’t the issue the van would have died the next day anyway and a days mail may have failed, in a way you did ur office a favour

You should definitely claim for it. Years ago I got a blow out on a rural that I was covering on a Saturday, it was hours before anyone could come out and to cut a long story short a couple of the locals noticed my predicament and I ended up at a BBQ . Bloody recovery turned up just before they all piled down pub though.

The fan on the van was not tripping out, been like it for months, phoned manager van not start, need new starter, get someone to pick me up, he came with a new starter who sat with the van for a few hours
