2 day election leaflet

I've been told by my manager that Labour have sent out a premium 2 day delivery leaflet for Monday & Tuesday.
Apparently RM are getting paid extra for us to deliver the leaflet in 2 days but we are not getting anything extra.

I was going to wait until the election was over but because of this latest news, I thought I'd ask my fellow colleagues on here.

Are election leaflets voluntary or mandatory? I thought voluntary since we get paid extra to deliver them but I never got asked
and they just chucked them on the frames and expected us to deliver. Can we say no, if it's voluntary? If it's mandatory then we shouldn't
be going past our time to deliver the crap and should be part of our indoor & outdoor work load.

They are mandatory and you are expected to go over your time within reason thats why you get the extra per item payment,you could see it as forced overtime but its not like its all year.

We have one next week as a door 2 door but obviously you can’t deliver them after Wednesday so don’t know what there plans are.

We've got it. It's a D2D (Whistl contract, thanks so much) so it is not electoral material and you do not get paid for it. As it is not electoral material and you are not getting paid extra for it, it falls under the standard cut off procedure.

We can do: super duper premium D2D or Tracked. Pick one.

Cwu are sending RM a strongly worded letter and a packet of chocolate digestives to help negotiations.

It's about time that RM force all the parties to have all election postings as machinable addressed mail so that we can sequence them with the rest of the sequencing on the CSS

Instead of arsing about with this, The CWU should be communicating with their Members and letting them know what the score is with this?

All they will be talking about is why we should vote Labour and how bad things will be if we vote for anybody else, not that they can get that much worse for us, they'll be nothing about the pressure we're under with all the election material, the later starts and the shorter week due to the introduction of the summer hours.

Perhaps they should have sought another bonus for offices who clear all their election material, as RM can easily afford one from all the additional revenue they must be receiving. A

An update from CWU Scotland Division.

Hope this is of some help.

"For clarification, the business has sold a service to the Labour Party for a 2 day D2D drop, similar to those we’ve done in the past in in previous campaigns, referendums.
I understand that the business has charged an increased rate compared to a normal D2D product, but I’m not privy to the details. Because of that and the two day delivery window, we are paying the appropriate pence per item payment as we do for candidate mail in this instance."

Disappointingly, they had not made us aware of this contract, but have confirmed it is for the Labour Party only and not the SNP. Thank you for your email, as it has now placed this on our radar.
As it is a shortened delivery window, the items attract the unit payments, which is to be welcomed. However, as Mark has pointed out to Royal Mail, the delivery of these items is to be completed within normal duty hours etc.

Sounds like they paid extra for a priority service which they will doubtless not receive
