Not enough bloody staff!

Post by Dingo99 »

Just want to rant! My current manager is a nice guy and all and he says he's tried getting someone to cover my duty tomorrow but has not got anyone to come in. So sick of this, dare to have a day off and walk back into bloody double bubble! I said, well trouble is too it;
's a shorter working day tomorrow, and he said just do what you can. Problem is I have an HCT duty, so it will mean two trolleys, losing 30 mins going back to office and going out again! I will work to my time I think (I do my best not to do any o.t, especially as we start 39 mins later now), but you are expected to get it all done as it failed the day before. It's getting untenable the work-load, only just got my whole duty in one trolley today, and that took me 4 hours and 20 minutes on delivery (I know Wednesday is the heaviest day, but ffs some days are like Christmas pressure!). Well sorry for my rant guys, just letting off some steam!

We are overstaffed by maybe 3 some days due to influx of new starters but then some days short staffed by about 3 most often on a Saturday :chuckle

I wish we were overstaffed some days lol, yeah, no one wants to work their Saturdays off me included. We have had a few new starters who couldn't cope, 2 were abysmal lol.

Do not over work yourself through stress about completing. Two days mail takes longer to clear so let them see that by working to your time and not killing yourself. If your manager was really a nice guy, he wouldn’t be subtly pressuring you into thinking you have to fit 2days mail into one.

In our wee office we always try to deliver it all, but even we are now feeling the effect of the later starts, we are not allowed to work over and i don't want to anyway.
Us "Golden Oldies"as some like to call us have been accustomed to clearing every day for years and it's difficult to get that different mindset where you just don't deliver it all and don't let it bother you. I have no problem just bringing it back every day or not taking it out to begin with.
Work your hours and let them deal with the consequences, and another hefty fine will be levied in RM's direction from ofcom.

I understand people have pride in the job but we really need to stop talking in the way that we are self employed and it’s all on our shoulders and we must complete. We are paid for our labour between a certain time. If you can’t complete in that time it’s not your fault. It’s up to people paid a lot more than us to make sure rounds are completed.

Overtime isn’t even overtime it’s atcually slightly less than hourly rate so that tells you everything you need to know about what they think of you going the extra mile.

I really cannot understand why this even bothers you, two days, three day, four days mail, you have a start & finish time, let it pile up, not your problem 🙄

It's called RM logic.

MONDAY - Not much mail, some people finished by 12.30. Although I finished bang on time, 14:40.

TUESDAY - Incredibly busy with barely any IPS sorters. The frame next to mine remains untouched until 9:45am (start at 7.05am), I leave 30% of the mail.

WEDNESDAY - See above, but I leave in 50% of the mail.

Unfortunately, Royal Mail are back trying to save the pennies again in our office. Management have been telling posties to leave any mail that might lead to them claiming any overtime and instead prioritise the Tracked at all costs. We have been playing catch up again all week, especially on the D2Ds. I think they are waiting until we have several weeks worth of them and then allow overtime or allow staff to work days off to get them all delivered when we get the election stuff.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

We have a team brief every morning telling us how bad/good we have been then tells us the daily figures of Mail / parcels to deliver and that today we have a 35% call rate !!! Wtf are we failing every day if that’s the figures :Very Happy

Low call rate is irrelevant when the rounds have been made ridiculously huge. All the extra prep, extra bagging-up, extra delivery we have to do negates a 35% call rate.

Lapsing used to be 20-25 minutes at the lighter times of the year. The extra work they have added to our rounds is ~50minutes....

So this is why rounds will still be failing with a 35% call rate.

Can’t believe they announced 35% because surely that’s figures calculated by Horizon.

We had that bullshit call rate spreadsheet ages ago. Think it was part of the justification used to f**k every walk in the office by adding extra. I'm not sure that magic spreadsheet can count things that aren't mech. And so what if the call rate is lower than before. I'm not magically teleporting past the houses with no mail.

Way more stuff gets scanned these days so they now have way more data available
