Big increase in recruitment

Post by norris9 »

Since the turn of the year our office has had a massive increase in new staff and recruitment activity....

Is this the same for your office?

We have a LOT of agency workers now as well as new postie recruits and 'floats' (day-off cover), whereas before we had no day-off cover and obviously far less staff.

Has something changed at Royal Mail for them to finally recruit staff? I am surprised they suddenly want to provide a better service and not instead continue to save money on wages.

If this is a common change throughout the country - what has changed, what are Royal Mail up to now?

Nope. Still no day off or annual leave cover in my office. Last week I did two days with a partner doing 2 days mail, 2 days going out on a van share on my own, and only one day with a partner with a single day's mail.

Genuine question. With such a ridiculous, nonsensical, destructive attitude towards business.....how do the people in charge become wealthy and powerful in the first place? All I can see is illogical, irrational, unprofessional decisions made by arrogant, wasteful, clueless charlatans.

I don't get it...

It's management by force and for me I don't think it works.

Instead of making processes more efficient, evening up rounds with some simple changes, it's JUST GET IT DONE! IT'S ACHIEVABLE! when they know it isn't. And I am not talking about the recent revisions, I am talking about the lack of even rounds, lack of organisation, lack of communication, lack of common sense for years and years.

It's odd. I'm not business minded so dont understand how things work but it's logical to me, to work with your employees and work together to achieve a common goal. Reward their hard work, give them achievable incentives and in return you get a loyal, hard working, more productive employee....
But this lot....bully, intimidate, threaten, lie, punish, move the goalposts, waste money....
It's almost as if they're taking every destructive decision possible

We’ve been up to date with recruitment, however the new starts are not staying, as soon as they realize the differences in the contracts they are looking for other jobs and leaving meaning we are recruiting for the same jobs multiple times…

This needs addressed asap, disappointed the new contracts were not mentioned in the update today.

Simple really. They're taking on new staff because OFCOM have told them to improve the service. In 6 months they go back to OFCOM and say we're nearly bankrupt because of trying to fulfill the USO. OFCOM says oooh well let's reduce the USO asap to 5 days. Yes I'm cynical 😂

Except reducing the USO isn't up to Ofcom.

The goal of privatisation is to take money out and reinvest as little as possible its (organised chaos) it looks chaotic but its planned out that way the Simon Thompson fiasco proves it he actually got rewarded for failure and breaking the union.
