Free mail redirection, only for when I move, or can I have my fathers mail redirected to me?

My elderly father has had to go into a care home (near me), can I have his mail redirected to me, or is the free mail redirection only for mail originally going to my household?

I work at the delivery office which covers my home, but the redirection would be for my father's house, and he lived on the other side of the country.

When you set up a redirection on the app your home address is not changeable so that suggests it's only for employee's registered address. It's quite pricey for the year but you should legally be able to pay for it from your dad's finances.

If you want to redirect someone else's mail you need to complete a Special Circumstances redirection form.
It can not be submitted online. It has to be done by post or in person at a PO branch due to the need to check documents and that you have the legal authority to interfere with someone else's mail.

If you don't have a POA or death certificate it's just a regular re-direction and the freebie perk of the job is only for employees and those they live with

This raises another question for me. Unfortunately, my Dad died recently. I am next of kin but his house is on the other side of the city. I can still go to his old house, as it's awaiting sale, but that means delays in collecting any mail - there's still some quite important mail going there, which is needed for probate purposes. Is a redirection allowed to my own home address in these circumstances and if it is, would that be free as a Royal Mail staff member under these Special Circumstances?

I'm not an expert. It would certainly be allowed. But I don't for one second think it would be free for employees.
I can't imagine RM ever being so basically generous, compassionate or decent.

Locally however there may be some hope of rules being bent or overlooked, for example if it's the same DO covering both addresses, a chat with the relevant manager and one of those orange cards on the frame or in with their redirections could help the mail get directly to you.
