It's not work related (as far as I'm aware) doctors think I have chronic gastiritis, next stage of the process is gastrocopy (camera down the throat) waiting for that appointment, which should tell me what exactly it is, sometimes I can go a few days where I'm fine but then i go downhill again, I don't know if it's worth getting another sicknote for now or going back gradually (but then i risk going off sick again and then thats stage 2)

Believe it or not I actually really want to go back to work, but while being healthy obviously.

Sounds a bit unpleasant,hope the doctors manage to cure it soon, I was joking with the freak runaway Yorkie bit just meant was it work related as I think they don't count, I know what you mean about wanting to get back but don't forget your stage lasts a full year now plus if you have to go off again you won't get paid for the first two days and if you rack up multiple absences when you think you might have been ok will soon add up to a stage two.

From my experience and a mates recently don't come back until fully fit. In our office at least you would be pressured to do more than agreed if on light duties and if you cannot cope and go off again chomping at the bit with a stage 2

It might be in your interest to stay off. If you come back in feeling fine and then go off again (even after a day) it's 2 absences, they're looking to get rid of people for anything and everything these days so if you're in and out all the time it strengthens their hand to get rid of you (even at your health's expense, and even though you'd think coming in and helping out instead of being off all the time would be in the company's favour).

Getting rid of people looks good on the managers record, I've overheard some at our DO a while back laughing between them talking about who got to 'do them'.

The main thing is your health, and working under stress/working whilst ill thinking you're doing the right thing, they simply do not care.

Obviously it's your decision but try and do whatever you feel is best for you, not them. They can't argue with sicknotes. Although some line managers seem to think they know more about the medical profession.
