Change Depot

Post by Technician14 »

Hi all I’m a brand new postie but a lot of years under my belt🙈.I have been given a Depot which is quite far away 40 minutes drive. How easy is it to request a change if a position becomes avail nearer home?.

From the stories in our office it's very difficult to transfer and currently impossible to move offices whilst keeping the same terms as you have. However if you're new and on bad terms then losing them won't be an issue.

Visit depots near to you. Get yourself known with the Dom and your wish to work there. If they are short and they want you, a transfer can be arranged.
Your current depot might say that there is a 6 month transfer rule which means that you have had to have worked there 6 months before a transfer can be considered. If this happens see your union rep as this rule is ignored when it suits them. I fought it and won as I know of many others.

From other posties that have moved/changed offices the stumbling block has always been the fact that the current office is short staffed and don't want anyone to leave OR the office that they want to move to doesn't have any vacancies. If there is someone in that office that will swap with you it makes it a bit easier but you need to contact that office, preferably in person first. And keep on at them. You could be working as a spare.

We have had staff that have been working at our depot for months (if not years) before they could transfer.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

All understandable I suppose. Couldn’t afford to wait and see if 1 would come up in my area so had to take first available. Spose I should just be glad I got one. Thank you for the reply. Appreciate it👍
