Why would you want to? What's lightweight?
You're not going to get a document that says you CAN carry a bag as that would leave RM wide open to legal
action if it was 'allowed' officially. and people started to get injuries from carrying bags.

try finding the 2010 agreement when we went to p&l as it says in there that lwts are mandatory and you could only carry a small bag if your duty says so ie flats , and no pavement etc . so no your not suppose to carry any bags .

All routes will have been assessed and appropriate delivery method assigned. Van, HTC etc.
That's will be the tool to be used for carrying the load. The whole point is that your body doesn't carry the load at all.

There are by necessity a few exceptions. In my office there's a few blocks of flats, and dangerous stretches of road with no footpath. Bags are are permitted for those bits but ONLY for those bits not the whole walk, they are still HCT or LWT walks


I like to look at the number of trollies I've had break on me (often as a result of my own clumsiness ) typically a nasty bump and wheels falling off the HTC or the hooks breaking on the LWT, and remember it's better that piece of cheap tat that broke while carrying the weight and that it wasn't me going down with unnecessary added weight)
And from and RM point of view it's probably cheaper for the kit to beak than us!

I've worked in a good handful of offices and none (zero) use LWTs - they have either all disappeared or been mothballed to the cellar. Everyone carries bags unless there is either no van or you have a bit of an injury. Have I been working in a bubble? Some have even carried two bags.

I did actually have to use a LWT recently (dirty and rusty) and it wasn't that much slower but it was a bit slower and my P&L partner always beat me back to the van - that didn't happen before as I was generally the quicker one. Got to love that little bit of daily "competition" between partners about getting back to the van in a timely manner!

Plus the LWT doesn't have a brake - great if you're on the flat; but very dodgy if your area is always on some slope or hill. It takes you a few seconds at EVERY house to wiggle it about and make sure it will not leave without you.

I'd love to use a LWT (though the steel trolley almost pulls your back lifting it in and out of the van) but it doesn't work well enough for the job we do. Plus there is hardly space in the van for the trolley with all the bags and oversized.

The loops are roughly 40 minutes.
I don't know how you could fit one loop into one bag.

Those that don't/won't use trollies have carved their loops up into 10 minute mini loops so they are constantly moving the van, waiting on their partner etc.
They then claim the duty isn't achievable (but it probably would be if they did the job properly.)

The loops are roughly 40 minutes.

They may have been in 2010 but that was 13 years ago.
Revisions since then have mostly added more loops but not redesigned existing loops.

The main issue now is members stuffing too many parcels into bags rather than bundles of mail. It is very unusual for me to have a second bundle on any loop.

Mostly weight on delivery is an issue that has resolved itself through changes to the mail streams. LWTs are no longer really a solution unless they're used for parcel delivery.

Maybe. Just shows the regional variations. We're all in the same job (those on delivery to limit it for this thread) but the loops can be quite different.

Use a LWT 2 bags somedays 3 distance and quantity is the problem mainly parcel volume

Why carry a lightweight bag if you use a trolley??
If its because you can't get everything in the trolley and slows you down its not your fault .

When I started 2 years ago trolleys weren't mentioned at all during induction, and we were shown videos of posties weighing all their pouches so they weren't taking too much. The only trolleys about are hidden by the few old timers that still use them, guy I worked with recently keeps his stashed in the office of an old people's home (he has their consent to do this) as "management get rid of them when they find them."
Is it still "working correctly" to use a trolley? If it is, where are they all and why doesn't anyone get told how to use them now?
