Going part time?

Seriously considering going part time if I am able. Has anyone else did this? Were you allowed? Did they buy down your hours? What do you lose out on?

Any advice would be appreciated it's quite a big decision for me but circumstances mean reduced hours would definitely help me with being a carer for a close elderly relative?

They won't buy down your hours, bonuses etc will be pro rata and less will be paid into your pension

They snatch people hands off at my office if they want to drop down in hours. You will lose out on

Lump sum’s/bonuses
Full time pay if off sick

Someone at my d o is considering moving to part time when the revisions come in. He thinks he can pick a part time duty and move down from full time. So if your revision is due you might be able to do it that way.

I would love to come down in hours to part-time however i have been told our office is short staffed and cannot!

It's alot easier to go down to part time hours providing you stick to your 5 days, getting them to reduce your days also is much harder.

All our part timers do full time hours with all the benefits of a part time contract, ain’t RM clever

Going ft to pt means giving up indoor work (ips, prep). Outdoor element will stay the say.

If you are lucky they can make a duty with shorter delivery but cant see this happening

Depends on the duty and contract, I do 4 days 30 hours so I do mainly prep but ip on occasions.

I asked in our office but was told it wasn't an option anymore, but job share is the way to go, a few in our place have started job sharing

Part time does not mean a piss easy walk ,it just means you start later 930 opposed to 7am with most of the indoor work element taken off.

I've been wrangling the "carer for a close elderly relative" for 5 years inc: 2 years partially motile and 3 years immotile.

With the new seasonal hours, there apparently an option to apply for varied hours with an application pack to be submitted.

This is working in conjunction with the carer teams supplied by the council, so in my case I'm applying for an hour later start to do the commode stuff and prep breakfast and a small dinner snack and leave it to the care teams to effect that. That means a return for tea time and a bit of laundry. cleaning maintainance etc

It works so far, but the point is, is to liase with the system to tell it what you need so that you don't need to go part-time?

Having said that, I'm also considering the option of dropping down to 30 hrs.

Part-time doesn't seem to mean part-time.

The job advertised I went for was 24 hours over 4 days. What I got was 5 days and random daily hours. Basically whatever we need you to do. 6am starts 5pm finishes. When you start and are on probation you feel the need to comply.

Now I've been here a few years and a routine has emerged, it is still covering full shifts and will always be 5 days.

We want you to be full-time but with less of the benefits.
