Ill health lump sum

Post by Raycox »

If I’ve been deemed eligible for Ill health lump sum by occy health Dr. However management are not processing it as I’ve been told there’s not enough money in the pot! Can they do this?

They're probably waiting until August when it goes down to 16 weeks pay, plus PILON.

Yes I’ve been told this also. Are they allowed to do this? If I’ve been granted Ill health lump sum can they go against it?

Can they do this if there's not been a vote on the agreement or if its a NO vote or will it be a case of them just implementing new T & Cs? If they do then put in a claim against Royal Mail for injuries caused by the work.

They're implementing it on 1st August, along with new attendance standards, etc.
6.4.3 Leaving Royal Mail through Ill Health (LTBIH)

Where employment with Royal Mail comes to an end due to ill health and the employee
meets the criteria for LtBIH with lump sum, they would receive a fixed compensation
payment of 16 weeks’ compensation. In addition, the employee will receive a payment in lieu
of notice and a payment in lieu of any accrued but untaken annual leave.
This change will apply to ill health compensation payment authorised on/after 1st August
2023.

In conjunction with the overall success of this agreement RMG and CWU share a joint
ambition to continue to provide industry leading sick pay and ill-health provision for all

I certainly wouldn't class this an "industry leading sick pay and ill-health provision for all". The union have failed those who have to leave because of the toll the job has taken on their bodies. Unfortunately I'm now too old to get employment elsewhere so I will have to put up with this s**te for another 2 years. I feel for new starts and the younger ones. Royal Mail is definitely not a job I would recommend now.

Another reason to vote NO
16 weeks ill health retirement is an absolute disgrace .

Yes it’s quite hard to get I’ll health retirement. A lot of obstacles are put in the way to prevent you getting it. It’s a shame because you could dedicated 30 to 40 years of your working life to Royal Mail and hardly been off then you get a life changing illness /injury and it’s still not enough to get a decent pay off.

Hello I have just received a diagnosis on a back complaint after many months off I did a phased return to work .
The condition I have is lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication.
Imagine my surprise when on doing my research it reads :

Neurogenic claudication leads to cramping and pain in the legs as well as weakness. It is part of a diagnosis of lumbar spinal stenosis, which can cause pain in the buttocks or lower back, lead to abnormal sensations, or cause the absence of sensation in the feet, thighs, legs, or buttocks. It can also lead to loss of bladder and bowel control.

If you suffer from neurogenic claudication and lumbar spinal stenosis it can affect your ability to work and earn a living. You may not be able to work a job that requires frequent bending or lifting, standing long periods, sit for long timeframes, or walking considerable distances. You may not be able to work in a factory or manufacturing setting, work in a warehouse, drive a truck, be a mechanic or a repairperson, work as a delivery person or perform a variety of other jobs.

My return to work interview was totally underwhelming and lacked empathy or interest, apart from so what can you do.
I'll just take my annual leave and let them get on with it.
From there initial usual scripted ( the computer says no) mutterings I don't feel very loved.

Here's hoping that if they enforce the new IHR policy then people will put in claims for injury at work. Lots of "no win no fee" law firms who specialise in this.

No need to use them if still in union contact unionline an they will give an honest answer if you have a claim or not.
