manager going to workers house after calling in sick
a manager told us they went to a workers house the day they called in sick, noting their car was at home where it shoud be. Is this allowed, or in conflict with a weeks self cert? What if the car was in the next street due to parking issues etc? This seems quite invasive to me

Re: manager going to workers house after calling in sick
I was threatened with this on my first day (self certification) of absence and I've heard of certain managers rocking up with little or no warning at others' addresses when on sick leave. You don't hear about this kind of thing in other companies or industries, but somehow this intrusive toxic behaviour has been normalised at RM.

Because your off sick does'nt mean you cannot leave the house. there are many reasons for being off sick that do not make you housebound.dazzler123 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2023, 20:52a manager told us they went to a workers house the day they called in sick, noting their car was at home where it shoud be. It will be considered harassment and treated as such.

On a side note, what makes these cretins think they have any right to do this? The police would need to obtain a warrant to do this kind of thing, but these scumbags seem to think having "manager" on their hi-vis makes them above the law?
Anyone else doing this would be subject to laws on trespass or harassment.

I’d invite the manager in, have him take a seat, lock the door after me (security first) and warn him I’m struggling with bottom bother. Then I’d rush to the toilet and treat him to a good half hour of associated sounds. After that I’d be sure to give him regular updates and phone him at all hours, for example to check if I can nip to the local shop or to walk the dog.
Alternatively I’d slap in a grievance.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I don't see it as a big deal,if you are genuinely off sick, you don't have to answer the door

Re: manager going to workers house after calling in sick
I wonder what would the manager have said if the car wasn't there? The postie may have been in but their partner/child took the car for the day. Just being off sick doesn't mean you can't leave your home.

I honestly wouldn’t answer the door , if he said I knocked on your door and you wernt home , I’d say oh I was I just didn’t answer. If he said your car wasn’t on your drive I’d say my kids are insured to drive it .Next question ?

Re: manager going to workers house after calling in sick
Anyway, not feeling fit enough to walk for 5 hours including up and down stairs doesnt mean you are too ill to do anything else
Always annoyed me when a previous manager of mine used to boast they had never had a sick day so neither should we - when his job consisted of sitting in a warm office drinking coffee doing not a lot. I'd probably make it in everyday too doing that instead of being faced with 20,000 steps in the rain.

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
