Work related stress

Post by TheGoodRebel111 »

I'm presently on day one of sick absence (self certification period) and any advice would be appreciated.
The reason is work-related stress which has caused physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea etc and is caused by my particular line manager. He has presently threatened to turn up at my house upon phoning in this morning. This on the first day of absence, not two weeks in etc!

This is a long-running issue, with my walk having more and more lapsing put on it to the extent that it is impossible to complete within my time. I know "work to time" etc but me doing that or initiating the cutting-off procedure has led to threats to take me off my walk and put me as a reserve, conduct procedures, etc.

Apologies if this has been written before, but the situation is just getting out of hand now. I used to enjoy this job but the daily stress is just too much to handle.

Seriously please just DO work your time. Start on time. Take your breaks. Don’t rush around. I did 14 years for them. I was very keen at first but it has just got worse and worse and unbearable. I’m now off unpaid (my choice a career break) for 6 months to get my head together and make a plan to leave before I have to go back in November. I was close to going off with stress but don’t think I could face the hassle as you have mentioned. Can’t really financially afford to do this but I can’t afford to mentally stay there. See a doctor and get signed off properly with stress and mention that them harassing you makes you worse. At least you’ll get paid.

I'm the same, everyday I'm going in I know its going to be a very heated battle on how I can't manage another 200 house lapsing, don't know how long I can sustain the stress I'm wound up so bad before I even go out on delivery. The toxic workplace environment ive never seen it so bad.

The best thing you can do is collect evidence that he's been bullying / harassing you. Keep a diary of everything. In your communications with him from now on use text / whatsapp / emails. Tell him you won't engage with him any other way, you don't have to tell him why. On whatsapp take screenshots as prior messages can be deleted now. This way you have hard evidence of any wrongdoing.

If anything is said down the phone then he can deny it ( don't record conversations as it's too much hassle). Dozens of times I've heard coms / linos deny something they've said previously. Even the most trivial stuff. Everyone lies to cover their own arse in RM.

Have you any witnesses to his behaviour? Is he treating just you this way? If so it could be classed as discrimination.

The next thing is to put in a grievance about him.

Keep in contact with your GP and your sick note/fit note up to date. Don't let him bully you back into work too early.

Just believe in yourself that you're in the right and he's in the wrong. Good luck

So, that bastard's only reaction to you having to go off with work related stress, was to add to it?

His turning up uninvited to your home, could be seen as being threatening, especially under those circumstances.

Wait until he turns up, comes onto your property, then call the police on him for tresspassing.

Then the police can ask him what it was he wanted to say to you, that he couldn't say to you over the phone when you called in.

some royal mail managers really are a new breed of human. The cruelty and vileness of some of them, never fails to amaze me. What is wrong with these people? Luckily for us we have a nicer manager, so never get any issues.

If you have the RM app I'm sure there's something on there with regards mental health, maybe a contact number to get some help, worth a look

Tell him he is more than welcome to come to your house and document the fact and then see your Union Rep and get your Grievance put in as for the walk if the worst that he can do is put you a reserve then tell him you are more than happy to comply as long as your duty times and days of attendance don't change. Did your manager not take anything away from mental health week last week?

The environment within the company is so toxic. Man, I cannot wait to get out of the circus!!

Beware the helpline. Beware the stuff they gave you last week on mental health.

Go to your GP.

Ask to be referred ASAP to OH who will give you 3 session over the phone, and will be there to confirm to your “manager”that the reason your off sick, also ask for a copy of ALL discussions (so you have a paper trail) contact your GP mentioning Stress, Anxiety etc.
Make sure you get Sicknotes to cover yourself!…
Best of luck

I can see a lot more going off stressed as most walks are over 5 hours and totally unmanageable, added to that is auto redelivery so we are out there even longer... After mental health week, the bullying message delivered to us from above is computer says yes we have enough time and to work faster or be conduct coded! :cry
