Lapsing (duty already too big)

Post by Dingo99 »

Sorry guys, just feel the need to rant! Seriously thinking of working to time! We had revision few weeks ago and so the duties got bigger, well, the cover manager had the nerve to dump lapsing on us! Council tax letters came in and we were all behind and cover DIM said we were to be out by 9am, none of us got close, we all left offfice just before 10am or later. Anyway I got told, well, colligue of mine is taking bit of your duty he took sweet f.a and took two pacets ffs) and we are giving you an extra road for lapsing, well sort of my own fault as I was rushing and took too many Council tax letters (was told to take where going as have 3 days to clear them( anyway lapsing took me 1 hour and 10 minutes ffs, two trolleys later and I left D.O (after manager and anyone else gone home as per) at 15:25, gonna book o.t obviously but ffs why are they doing this to us, it's unachieveable, and sick of being bullied by DOMS to take extra when struggling anyway! Seriously thinking off going on the sick with stress, hard to cope, don't want any o.t. Anyway I work in a small office with only 9 (nope sorry 8 duties after revision) and it is my long weekend this week, and as it stands they have 3 duties uncovered, I already knoiw what is gonna happn, gonna go into Tuesday arfter with treble to deal with (except of course tracked and SD's, but I thought we didn't priorotise packets), it happened a after W/C 9th Jan, as I put on here before mhy duty (pre revision but still), didn't go out for a week. So sick of it and pi55ed off, you shouldn't have to worry about having your entitled days off, and thinking qwelll if I don't work it I'll be in the s**t, I do a trolley duty and everytime I have to load up with any extra that I can't get in 1st trolley, welll I lose 30 mins on walk back to back. Sorry for rant guys, want another job but don't drive anymore which makes it hardr, nothing round these parts except basically part time retail work. The worst thing they ever did was privatise us!!!! Regards,

Are some areas separating the council tax letters from the other letters? We just put them through the iLSM/CSS along with the other mech mail for sequencing

Yep they come in the mech mixed with the other mech letters. Normally told you got 3 days to clear them. Normal procedure is to throw them all in the frame on the day they arrive and take them where you going with other mail on first 2 days clearing any left on the 3rd day.

Since SISO came in I thought everyone would just work to time. I’d say 90% of our office now start and finish on time, take breaks and work at a steady pace. You get paid about £13 an hour, that’s not enough to have stress or rush. As soon as you start working like this it becomes so much easier. Sometimes it’s just best to work how Royal Mail want you to. Scan all parcels to your route, do all d2d, take lapsing 1st. Some days I’ve got less then 4 hours to do my own round, clearly not possible so take all the stress away and just do what you can. My Moto is 1 parcel or 1 house at a time. If my manager asks me to prioritise tracked then I do it and just make a note on my phone while they are telling me. I’ve got about 200 notes on my phone with date, time, instruction and by who 😀

Start time.
Finish time.
Do what you can between those times, and no more, unless you choose to.
Your free time outside of work hours, is your time.
You choose what you do outside of worktime, not Royal Mail.
Give those buggers an inch, and they will want to take the mile, everytime.

You go over if you want to and there should be no argument either, you do what you can within your time and thats it.

This. Any thing more from them is just straight bullying. Don't fall for it. You have your contracted hours. As another poster said, if you give them an inch they will take a mile and then some.

Inform your manager in the morning befor you go out that you think you wont be able to complete and what time in the afternoon they want you to phone them if you're likely to cut off. Record the convo or have a witness. Take your breaks. Go out as agreed, come back on your time. Rinse and repeat.
