9 day fortnight or 5 on 1 off rotate

Post by sarky »

Told this morning that if our office votes to remain a 9 day fortnight we will lose 6 walks and they will be absorbed equally between the workforce. OR we can change back to 5 days on 1 day off rotating day off and nothing will change. I was also told that once our duties were made bigger ( by voting to keep it as it is ) when the 5 day rotate does get forced in ( which it eventually will ) we will be stuck with the absorbtion. So it looks like a no brainer to me. Have I got this right or am I missing something ?

Stick with the 9 dayer as long as you can.

Yes keep the 9 day fortnight, who cares what they want to absorb, you have a start and finish time.

Also do you think you can believe them not to change anything if you moved to a 5 day week ? They will still have you absorbing regardless of what duty pattern you choose.

We have been told that a rotating day off is the only pattern going to be offered nationwide. However as above if u can keep what u got vote for that, doesn’t matter how many walks they want to lapse.

We've got a similar thing going on at our DO.
Could they force it in if they wanted to and make us go on 1 in 6?
Correct me if I'm wrong but is it just union members who get to vote or is it the whole office?

I'd imagine they can force it in if they wanted to I think they have to give a notice period though for change of attendance, the op is saying that they get to vote because their com is sort of bribing them by saying if they accept the attendance change then the duties will stay as they are ;liar so presumably the whole office will be eligible to vote as it's not a union led issue.

Of course in your case they might just bring it in without attempting to offer a sweetener.

Its a no brainer you have got to keep the 9 day fortnight ,extra 26 days off, trying to tell people in our office that if they stay on it they will finish later so cant pick their kids up but if they change they will finish early so can pick them up,lets be clear they want us to finish later and the days of doing the school run are over and ive been here 28 years and one thing ive learnt is never trust a Royal Mail manager, keep the 9 day fortnight and vote YES !!!!

Mad idea but I'd go for a four day week of four 9 hour days, with the 25 hr / part timers doing three 8/9 hour days Fri,sat, sun. So no need to cover my day off, probably no overtime either, sounds simple ? Maybe I'm missing something. We were offered various shifts and got told we could only have rotating day.
