Religious door to door

Post by m666123 »

Hi,
We are delivering some religious, Christian booklets this week in our office - and it just doesn't seem right. I know we deliver political propaganda before elections, but we are paid separately for that, and - as far as I know - we have right to refuse. What about religious ones? I know it's most likely some innocent Christian organization, but it could be some sort of cult as well. Anyway - I don't think Royal Mail shoul be involved in that kind of activity. Do I have any grounds for questioning that?

Who are you to impose your will and views on the customer, next you will want to know what is in every item you deliver so that you can vet it,if the items you refer to were dodgy or illegal RM would not accept them, also remember the revenue raised pays your wages

Royal Mail do control what customers might receive, on their guidelines document regarding door to door it clearly says we won't deliver anything that could be embarrassing either to us, customers or Royal Mail. Delivering some brainwashing religious propaganda is embarrassing to me, we are not Jehova Witnesses.

He is not imposing his will, he is asking in a roundabout way if there is a conscience clause.

The answer is yes there is though exercising it may lead to unwanted consequences as Royal Mail will still have to deliver the items if his objection is warranted.

Ergo both sides have their own conscience and it's unfair to impose ours on anyone else, whether you agree with their position or not. The items should still be delivered, but genuine requests under the conscience clause should be handled sympathetically.

Personally, I would deliver them without worrying about it but that doesn't preclude someone else from having problems doing the same.

It may be religious brainwashing stuff but all the advertising we deliver is trying to push the recipient in a certain direction

I dare say there is a huge difference between being pushed towards a pizza and a cult.

Three former Scientologists filed a lawsuit in April alleging they were forced to work for the organisation from the age of 10 until adulthood for little or no pay, while suffering verbal and physical abuse.

Gawain Baxter, who is suing the church with wife Laura Baxter and a third plaintiff Valeska Paris, said in a statement released through his attorney that he was forced to sign a document at the age of six pledging to work for the Church of Scientology for one billion years.

He said he began working in low or unpaid labour for the Scientology’s Cadet Org from the age of 10 while being forced to attend “expensive indoctrination sessions”.

The Baxters later worked for the church’s military-style Sea Org before leaving in 2012.

“Growing up in Scientology, being separated from my family and subjected to severe verbal and physical abuse has scarred me in ways that I am still working through and uncovering,” Mr Baxter said in a statement released in April. “All the while, Scientology continues to abuse and exploit its members, including young children, and does so with virtually unchecked power.”
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I'm sure they're a bunch of fruit loops, long way from a leaflet through the door.

Are you ok delivering 'Gold group' parcels?

What about the Salvation Army D2D's that normally go out before Christmas?

During Covid, JW continually pushed out letters addressed to 'The Occupant' as they couldn't go knocking, with little
JW related 'icons' in them (must have cost them a fortune) - but we still delivered them.

A lot of stuff we deliver, whether it's D2D or actual post/parcels could be offensive/embarrassing to us as an individual
but we're paid to deliver. If you feel strongly enough about it, raise it with your management.

Unfortunately not everyone can think for themselves, that's why hard drugs, guns etc. are illegal in most countries.
