profit and loss
i wonder if any of our clued up colleagues on here would know this. when the financial figures are announced, would it still be classed as 'losses' if they were still in profit.? i.e. they had made 758m in April, but November shows that profit has dropped to say...158m, could that be announced that we,ve lost 600m. or would they say profits are down.?? another way the numbers are ''crunched/manipulated''.

Re: profit and loss
It would just be lower than expected profits. A loss would be where the total expenditure exceeds total income.
It's often spun as "a loss of profits" but technically they have not made a loss.

I don't play the lottery. I, too, am 'losing' a million a day.
The machine stops.

Re: profit and loss
The drip-fed "We`re losing a million a day!" bollocks is "We`re making a million less profit than last year". Not the same thing is it? The highest level of inflation for 41 years might have an effect on the set of results after these, so I guess WE`LL get the blame again. This is why capitalism is unsustainable, because it thrives on year on year increased profits whatever outside elements effect it. Not enough profit? so cut costs, usually staff, but what happens when the cuts effect service and the ability to make any further profits diminishes because customers no longer want your service, because it`s not fit for purpose

Re: profit and loss
Just as firms want more profit, you want more wages, no? It's just how the world works. Yes, there should be a cap of a certain % of an average worker for the CEO to be able to get paid.WalkerX wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 18:24The drip-fed "We`re losing a million a day!" bollocks is "We`re making a million less profit than last year". Re: profit and loss
Exactly! I’m ‘losing’ £50 a day.
I’m not really, I just don’t do overtime and my outgoings have risen compared to last year.
My mum is losing £245 a day. Again, not really, she’s retired now.
It’s easy to account for things the Royal Mail way!
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
