RMCtv : Safeplace - Customer Opt-out

Post by POSTMAN »

Safeplace - Customer Opt-out

From today, a small number of posting customers send items that they only want to be delivered to the recipient directly and do not want them left in a Safeplace or Delivered to Neighbour due to their contents.

To meet this customer need, we are launching the facility to allow agreed sending customers to specify ‘do not deliver to Safeplace’ or ‘do not deliver to Safeplace and neighbour’ for eligible RM Tracked products - This overrides any recipient instructions included at the point of purchase.

There will be no information on the label to indicate this, as the sending customers do not want to highlight that they have opted out.

Where the sending customer has opted out, post person will be notified by a pop-up screen on the PDA and the Safeplace and/or deliver to neighbour option on the PDA will not be available

Remember, the opt out is an instruction by the sending customer, we must not leave an opted-out item in a Safeplace and/or neighbour even if the recipient requests to do so.

Great, more 739 cards to write out and more parcels to return to office means less time to deliver other parcels, fine by me.

So we can't safeplace and have to take it back to the office where the CSP hours are being slashed.
Makes perfect sense to me

Just the sort of nonsensical bollocks one expects of Thompson & Co and the total and utter shitshow that is, Royal Mail.

So you knock on the customers door who's out but notice the neighbour's home so knock on their door, as they are about to answer you scan on the parcel and are then warned you can't pass it to the neighbour!!

The WTLL logo looks like a clown with blue and yellow ears. Feels appropriate.

So now you get in that awkward situation where

Monday: a neighbour working in their garden or washing the car says "I'll take that mate, they're at work". So you pass the item over, all sorted no problems

Tuesday: same neighbour sees you knocking next door again so sticks their head out of the window to take item from you." Oh no I can't leave it with you".

It comes over as you suddenly not trusting them which causes a problem with leaving future items. Now I know this can happen with S/D but how many of those do you get let alone where someone offers to take it in?

Surely & hopefully there isn't going to be much of a take-up on this. Anyone remember the items we were going to be getting a couple of years ago where only the recipient could accept and sign for it? Don't think our whole office has ever had one.

From the attachments in the thread, I think that when you scan the parcel at the addressee's door you'll get the message not to safeplace/neighbour at that point, so don't think this scenario will arise.

That depends when you scan the parcel if you do it before they answer then it won't apply if you to scan it when the customer or neighbour answers the door then the scenario will apply
