Practice run

Most of you will recall the recent ridiculous revisions in delivery, letters and packets piling up daily and deliveries delayed in some areas for weeks. Was this a practice run for RM to see the public's reaction to delays and then use this information for when it came to strike action? If the public didn't kick up much of a fuss over weeks of delays then they arnt going to give a toss over a few days? RM could also reason that the public dont really care that much about daily letter deliveries and could push for just a 3 day one? A conspiracy too far?

I don’t think RM are hugely concerned about the public.

They will be ok with service disruption, and material losses as it gives them a sob story to get out of the 6 day USO.
That is a massive aim for them currently.

I think we should all move on from Royal Mail being a public service like before... We can all see for ourselves that the public at large do not care much about letters (and mags and marketing) and such as before. I have not met many questioning delays or even noticing delays... But some even moan about the mountain of rubbish we deliver...

Parcels and packet delays are also not such a big deal for a large number, it appears they have bigger fishes to fry. The amount of companies operating on a buy and return has ballooned; a large number of the parcels we delivered are try and/or return items.

As for the strikes, many do not even notice the difference in service at all or even know we are on strikes.

Having said the above, I dont think Royal Mail has manufactured the strikes just to get rid of the USO but it is helping though. Sadly, OFCOM will find RM and that is going to affect the profits and our share of the PIE. (Let's grow that pie)

I've not said anything to my postie but I'm annoyed I don't seem to have had a delivery so far this week and I'm waiting for a new credit card and something I ordered off eBay to arrive. I'll probably complain to the eBay seller so they'll also be annoyed with RM.

Of course, some people will be at the wrong end of poor service/delivery - inevitable, but the general trend is that most people are now used to such delays especially following the Pandemic and the rise of electronic Comms.

I should also add that the strikes are one thing but the level of absence in some offices is more of an issue than clearing a backlog of 1 day or two (with help of managers and agencies)

Things will not be the same again for RM; just my view!
