approx how many parcels do you return to the office?
i am in different areas every day/week so have less reason to hide things for people or doorstep.
today ive done about 85 parcels and brought back nearly 20.
a few werent in but had requested a safeplace so im happy to follow those instructions.
however if there are no instructions why should i have to make a decision about where to leave it? the pda tells me to take a photo with the door open. so its safer to leave a p739 if unsure.
i know that plenty of colleagues will get rid of every item, which obviously saves time. this is most posties priority in my experience, to get round as quick as possible
the managers put pressure on you to deliver more items but why should you rush when it will be blamed on you if the photo shows the door closed or the safe place you choose turns out to be not safe?
also what about these ring door bells? if customer isnt in but they talk to you on the doorbell and ask you to leave it by the door, will you? you cant take the photo with door open can you. so would that be a safe place "other" and write "on customers request via ring door bell"?

I bring back about 1 out of every 10 parcels, although I usually do rural rounds. I don’t doorstep, but leave where I consider safe (garages, greenhouses, sheds etc) and only if I can take a pic.

Doorbell camera - I estimate only 1 in 10 actually answer when I ring the doorbell camera! On the rare occasion I get through and they ask me to leave on doorstep I explain I can’t. If they pick somewhere more sensible I will do, if they insist on me leaving it on the doorstep I’m afraid I suddenly can’t hear them and I write out a P739.

Sometimes I bring none back, sometimes it's been around 40. I tend not to worry about it. They put a lot of pressure on us to knock on neighbours but I won't do that anymore unless the customer has asked me to or I know the neighbour is happy to take it. We have had issues with neighbours denying receiving items. In rural you get more stress off the customer for not leaving it, so it's often a judgement call. Though of course if the safe place isn't actually a safe place it shouldn't officially be left.

the problem is most parcels do not specify a safe place , only occasionaly does it pop up on the pda with a safe place request. so im not willing to be the one to decide the safeplace location if its not specified , our comes a red card .

re: neighbours , i had this problem too. no 4 took the parcel for no 3, but then would not pass on the parcel or answer the door. it took a week for no 4 to finally give the parcel to the neighbour. during this time i had several conversations with no 3 and they put in a non receipt complaint so i had the manager asking me for details. so the whole thing was a lot more hassle than leaving a card in rhe first place

I know exactly what you mean. I’m getting fed up of those tracked parcels that say ‘leave safe’ and doesn’t give you any hint, you then find they’ve locked their shed/garage etc and there’s nowhere to leave it at all. A few days down the line you find out from the duty holder their auntie takes their parcels who lives 8 doors down the street

I deliver to a few estates. These have 700 / 1000 houses on them, no one leaves a safe place request, no one leaves back gates open to store parcels, and you can’t just leave it outside their house as there’s no where to hide them. I p739 everything apart from the odd few who have requested safe places. Probably bring 30/40 back a day. I don’t use ring doorbells because if they answer they’ll say “ just leave it outside the door won’t be long!” Which I wont.

You just gotta cover you back otherwise you’ll get the sack.

Don’t often try neighbours now unless I know they’re good for it or they are milling about in the driveway. Just takes too long when I’m already running over every day, add a few collections that are either bulky or have no label and you end up handing back or booking hours. As for safe places I just use best judgement.

Used to bring very few back id try to deliver them as i passed on my way back, now ive got no time to do that or walk next door so im bringing back ten or more most days and not finishing the letters.

Same as above for me, the time to try neighbours isn't there but I end up still trying to get shut as the issue is more redeliveries due to the caller's office hardly being open these days.

The problems is when they say that to Amazon or EVRI they'll just leave it, we're probably the only delivery co. which doesn't, unless the sender is insisting on a signature.

What I can't get my head around is why RM don't insist the customers either confirm they'll be in or leave a Safeplace option, probably out of 100 packets/parcels I deliver a day less than 1% have a confirmed Safeplace option.

Also don’t order parcels if you can’t be bothered to get out of bed!!
